Amity police arrest 2 after armed robbery

DOUGLASSVI­LLE » Police have arrested two Pottstown men after an armed robbery was reported on Jan. 28.

Alec Glenn Stillman, 35, and Anthony Rains, 35, both of Pottstown, were arrested in the parking lot of a Douglassvi­lle shopping center.

According to police, officers from Amity Township, Exeter Township, Pennsylvan­ia State Police, Birdsboro and Caernarvon Police Department­s received informatio­n regarding a gunpoint robbery that occurred in Exeter Township.

It was reported that three male suspects in a black Cadillac were possibly armed and dangerous and traveling eastbound on Benjamin Franklin Highway (Route 422).

Moments later, officers observed the male suspects pull into the Redner’s Warehouse parking lot in the Douglassvi­lle Shopping Center, 1179 Benjamin Franklin Highway. Amity Township Police initiated a vehicle stop, according to police.

Stillman was arrested and charged with resisting arrest and carrying a firearm without a license after police say they recovered a handgun in the vehicle.

Rains was arrested and charged with resisting arrest after he allegedly ran from officers.

The third individual has not been identified by police.

Stillman and Rains were both arraigned on Jan. 29 before District Judge Steven Chieffo and are scheduled for a preliminar­y hearing on Feb. 14 again before Chieffo. Bail for Rains was set at $100,000 and bail for Stillman was set at $150,000. Neither men were able to post bail and were remanded to Berks County Prison.
