Mark Malizzi, executive director of Thunder Outreach Ministries in Boyertown, and other members of Heaven’s Thunder Band of Boyertown, visited Safe Berks on Sunday, Jan. 28, and delivered a check for $4,191 to help renovate the Safe Berks Playground.

The funds were raised at an “Inspiring Hope” concert by Heaven’s Thunder Band, which was held on Nov. 11 at the State Theatre of Boyertown. Nearly 200 people attended the concert. The concert was presented by Thunder Outreach Ministries, a faithbased community program that provides fundraising, food drives, and music outreach programs.

Heaven’s Thunder Band includes Malizzi, drums; Keith Morris, vocals and guitar; Guy Detweiler, vocals; Janelle Detweiler, vocals; Brian McGuinness, vocals and lead guitar; Gary Pace, bass guitar; and Randy Graber, keyboard. Morris also serves as the leader of the band.

Graber, a former Police Officer who had assisted victims of domestic violence, felt inspired to help Safe Berks and brought the idea to the band.

Safe Berks is hoping to renovate the Playground this spring.

“It is vital for all children to have access to a clean and safe place to play,” said Mary Kay Bernosky, Chief Executive Officer of Safe Berks. “Children coming from families torn apart by domestic abuse have even a greater need for access to an environment where they can experience individual and group play in a safe space. We are thrilled to have been selected as the beneficiary of the Thunder Outreach benefit concert, to help us provide this for our children at the Safe House.”

Donations to support the Playground renovation can be made online at www. safeberks.org or mailed to Safe Berks at 255 Chestnut St., Reading, PA 19602.

Safe Berks served more than 4,000 clients in the last fiscal year. Our Safe House provided a haven to approximately 400 adults and 400 children who were in danger. Safe Berks provided other clients with counseling services, and legal advocacy and support. Safe Berks also provides education programs throughout Berks County to promote the prevention of domestic violence and sexual assault.
