Reading boys basketball locks up Berks I title with win over Gov. Mifflin

READING HIGH 60, GOV. MIFFLIN 36 » At Geigle Complex Feb. 1, the Red Knights led 19-13 at halftime before powering away to a 60-36 victory over the Mustangs.

The win clinched the Red Knights’ fourth straight Division I title. Wesley Butler led all scorers with 17 points; Bryce Black and Ben Walmer each scored nine to lead Mifflin. MUHLENBERG 67, DANIEL BOONE 44 » At Muhlenberg Jan. 30, Jahmere Evans scored a career-high 25 points to lead the Muhls over the Blazers in Berks Conference play.

Mikai Washington added 15 points with five 3-pointers for Muhlenberg. Jared Tranovich led Boone with 16 points.

DANIEL BOONE 38, FLEETWOOD 37 » At Birdsboro Jan. 31, Chaunce Johnson made a layup with two seconds remaining, and the Blazers (4-15) defeated the Tigers (6-13).

Johnson’s game-winning basket came off an out-of-bounds play underneath the basket. Chris Surkosky scored a team-high 10 points and Dylan Walker and Johnson both finished with eight for Daniel Boone. WILSON 55, DANIEL BOONE 35 » At West Lawn Feb. 2, the Bulldogs used a 16-2 surge first half surge to spark a win over the Blazers.

Wilson (7-2, 14-7) was led by Chaunce Johnson with 16 points. Stevie Mitchell had 10 points for Daniel Boone (0-9. 4-16). READING HIGH 80, EXETER 49 » At Geigle Complex Jan. 30, R.J. Dixon and Wesley Butler each scored 18 points to head the Red Knights’ victory over the Eagles.

Wesley Murray scored 16 points and Davyahn Singleton 12 to lead Exeter. EXETER 70, MUHLENBERG 64 » At Reiffton Feb. 2, Alex Javier scored 21 and Anthony Wise and Riley Dobranieck­i each had 12 as the Eagles beat the Muhls.

Exeter outscored Muhlenberg by 11 in the third after trailing by six at the half. Jahmere Evans and Dreyton Kipp each scored 19 and Tyler Kipp had 14 for the Muhls.

EXETER 63, SCHUYLKILL VALLEY 30 » At Leesport Feb. 3, Alex Javier scored all of his game-high 11 points in the first half for the Eagles (13-8), who entered halftime with a 27-point lead en route to a win over the Panthers (7-14).

Nathaniel Solomon had nine points to lead Schuylkill Valley.

WILSON 52, GOV. MIFFLIN 37 » At Shillingto­n Jan. 30, freshman Stevie Mitchell scored a game-high 13 points to lead the Bulldogs to victory over the Mustangs in a Berks Conference Division I game.

Wilson led from start to finish, building an early 10-point lead they stretched to 20 at one point. Bryce Black had nine points to lead Mifflin, and Ben Walmer added eight.

READING HIGH 42, DANIEL BOONE 35 » At Birdsboro Jan. 29, Jasmine Perez scored 17 points to lead the Red Knights past the Blazers in Berks Conference action.

Skyler Emory had eight points to lead Daniel Boone.

TWIN VALLEY 52, DANIEL BOONE 33 » At Birdsboro Jan. 30, the Raiders jumped out to a 14-0 lead after the first quarter on their way to knocking off the Blazers.

Peyton McDaniel scored a game-high 20 points to lead Twin Valley. Courtney Gabbett and Sydney Hayes each had eight points for Boone.

WILSON 48, DANIEL BOONE 37 » Even with Madison Spitko scoring 21 points, the Blazers fell to the Bulldogs in Berks Conference play.

Zakiyah Winfield gave Wilson a game-high 27 points. 44» At Mount Joy Feb. 3, Carly Diffenderf­er scored 21 points to lead the Indians (11-9) past the Blazers (5-16).

Kaylie Walker had 17 points for Daniel Boone, and Courtney Gabbett had 12.

READING HIGH 42, EXETER 36 » At Reiffton Jan. 30, Briana Seltzer scored 23 points as the Red Knights overcame a two point deficit after three quarters to knock off the Eagles.

Thressia Nixon had 11 points and 13 rebounds for Exeter.

EXETER 52, BRANDYWINE HEIGHTS 36 » At Reiffton, Feb. 3 the Eagles (8-13) built a 14-point halftime lead and defeated the Bullets (11-10).

Jordan Davis led Exeter with 19 points. Chelsea Rousseau had nine points, and Thressia Nixon had nine points and 12 rebounds on Senior Night. Hannah Fenstermac­her scored 16 for Brandywine Heights.

GOV. MIFFLIN 49, WILSON 44 » At West Lawn, Kyra Hartman scored six of her teamleadin­g 12 points in overtime and grabbed 11 rebounds for the Mustangs (5-3, 14-5) in their Berks Conference victory.

Gov. Mifflin overcame a nine-point second-half deficit, and Briyana Shepard hit a 3-pointer at the buzzer to force overtime.

TWIN VALLEY 48, GOV. MIFFLIN 37 » At Elverson Feb. 2, Peyton McDaniel had 17 of her game high 23 points in the first half, then paired with Taylor Blunt to go 11of-12 from the foul line in the fourth quarter as the Raiders defeated the Mustangs.

The win was the 20th straight for the Raiders after a season-opening loss. Ta’Shonna Wright-Gaskins had 13 points for the Mustangs.

GOV. MIFFLIN 49, READING HIGH 42 » At Geigle Complex Feb. 3, the Mustangs (6-4, 15-6) took a 10-point halftime lead and defeated the Red Knights (5-4, 8-12). Samantha Latshaw hit six 3-pointers for a team-high 18 points, and Kyra Hartman scored 12 for Gov. Mifflin. Briana Seltzer led Reading High with 24 points.

CEDAR CLIFF 45, EXETER 24 » At Reiffton Jan. 30, the Eagles were unable to continue an early winning run as they fell to Cedar Cliff in the opening round of the District 3-A duals.

Pins by Dennis Karas (220), Alex O’Neill (152) and Gage Moran (160) provided the bulk of Exeter’s scoring. DANIEL BOONE 64, KUTZTOWN 9 » At Kutztown Jan. 31, the Blazers won the first seven bouts to build a 39-point lead and went on to defeat the Cougars.

Daniel Salguero (120) and Brady Barton (285) scored falls for Daniel Boone. Jake Sharadin scored a fall for Kutztown in the final bout at 113.

WILSON 136, EXETER 50 » At West Lawn Feb. 1, Luke Scoboria had the Eagles’ lone first-place finish in their meet with the Bulldogs.

Scoboria won the 200 free in a time of 1:50.97. WILSON 134, GOV. MIFFLIN 51» At West Lawn Jan. 30, Aiden McCurley accounted for the Mustangs’ lone victory in a race during their meet with the Bulldogs.

McCurley headed the 100 breast in a time of 1:02.58 GOV. MIFFLIN 126, TWIN VALLEY 35 » At Shillingto­n Feb. 1, Trevor Woolwine was a two-race winner for the Mustangs in their Berks Conference victory over the Raiders.

Woolwine took the 100 free (49.23) and the 100 breast (1:05.06) in addition to swimming legs of Mifflin’s winning 200 free (1:37.16) and 400 free relay (3:35.73). The Mustangs got other firsts from Tim Mangan (200 free, 1:52.32), Aiden McCurley (200 IM, 2:06.16), Noah Clipman (diving, 250.60 points), Aidan Hassler (100 fly, 1:03.25), Shane Stauffer (500 free, 5:03.38) and Liam Hassler (100 back, 1:11.08) and its 200 medley relay of Glenn Heckman, McCurley, Stauffer and Matthew Brown (1:50.36).

WILSON 126, EXETER 60 » At West Lawn Feb. 1, Brooke Bollinger won two individual races for the Eagles in their Berks Conference meet with the Bulldogs.

Bollinger took the 200 IM in 2;16.53 and the 100 breast in 1:08.50. She also joined Taylor Stech, Sophia Scoboria and Katherine Kerchner in a first-place finish in the 200 medley relay (1:59.26).

GOV. MIFFLIN 95, WILSON 91 » At West Lawn Jan. 30, Rebecca Brown and Emma Steckiel each won pairs of races to help the Mustangs get by the Bulldogs in their Central Penn League meet.

Brown took the 50 free (24.01) and 100 free (52.83), with Steckiel doing the same in the 200 free (1:51.16) and 500 free (5:03.53). They also swam legs of Mifflin’s winning 200 free (1:35.28) and 400 free (3:28.06) relays, Brown the second legs and Steckiel the anchor legs.

GOV. MIFFLIN 136, TWIN VALLEY 42 » At Shillingto­n Feb. 1, Courtney Novotny was a two-race winner for the Mustangs in their Central Penn League meet with the Raiders.

Novotny won the 200 free (2:01.07) and the 500 free (5:28.05) for GM, which placed first in all but one individual race.

DANIEL BOONE 3, EXETER 0 » At Reiffton Jan. 29, Ryan Mardsen rolled a 779 to lead the Blazers in their Berks Conference victory over the Eagles.

Alex Horton and Robert Zarilli chipped in with a 714 and 626, respective­ly, for Boone. Exeter got a 797 from Luke Ravel and a 568 from John Zappacosta. DANIEL BOONE 3, READING HIGH 0 » At Hiester Lanes Feb. 1, Alex Horton rolled a 686 to lead the Blazers’ Berks Conference victory over the Red Knights.

John Arms (670) and John Garner (666) had other high scores for Boone. GOV. MIFFLIN 3, READING HIGH 0 » At Reading Jan. 29, the Mustangs swept their Berks Conference match with the Red Knights with help from Alex Coldren’s 660 and Mitchell Brown’s 645.

Matthew Latham contribute­d a 628 to Mifflin’s winning effort. Kevin Mejia rolled a 532 to lead Reading.

GOV. MIFFLIN 2, OLEY VALLEY1» At Shillingto­n Jan. 30, Jacob Meinig rolled a 665 to lead the Mustangs’ victory over the Lynx in a Berks Conference match.

Alex Coldren added a 648, and Alex Arroyo a 622, to the Boone showing.

DANIEL BOONE 2, EXETER 1 » At Reiffton Jan. 29, Alyssa Blood scored a 595 and Mollie Maggs a 514 to head the Blazers’ Berks Conference victory over the Eagles.

Exeter was led by Alexis Schwenk’s 524 and Hailee Shollenber­ger’s 523. DANIEL BOONE 3, READING HIGH 0 » At Hiester Lanes Feb. 1, Mollie Maggs rolled a 555 to lead the Blazers’ Berks Conference victory over the Red Knights.

Emily Wedemeyer chipped in with a 497 for Boone, and Alyssa Blood with a 485.

GOV. MIFFLIN 3, READING HIGH 0 » At Reading Jan. 29, Emily Garl rolled a 748 to lead the Mustangs past the Red Knights in their Berks Conference match.

Lauren Weber had a 592, and Alyssa Breidegam a 586, to help secure the victory.

GOV. MIFFLIN 3, OLEY VALLEY 0» At Shillingto­n Jan. 30, Emily Garl rolled a 686 to lead the Mustangs’ Berks Conference win over the Lynx.

Lauren Weber chipped in with a 651 for Mifflin.
