Exeter, Mifflin boys reach Berks semifinals

Boys basketball

EXETER 49, DANIEL BOONE 44 »

At Reiffton Feb. 5, Alex Javier scored 16 points and Davyahn Singleton added 12 for the Eagles (6-4, 14-8) in a victory over the Blazers (0-10, 4-18).

Exeter made nine of 11 foul shots and outscored Daniel Boone by seven in the fourth quarter. Chaunce Johnson scored 17 of his 26 points in the third quarter for the Blazers.

BERKS CATHOLIC 59, GOV. MIFFLIN 49 » Kyran Mitchell scored 17 points and Berks Catholic used a fast start (23-6 first quarter) to hold off Gov. Mifflin in a Berks quarterfin­al at Exeter on Feb 9.

The Saints (21-2) were to meet Conrad Weiser in a semifinal Monday.

Casey Klahr had 24 points to help the rally of the Mustangs, which got within six points in the third quarter. Bryce Black chipped in 10.

Casey Jack had 13 points and five assists for BC.

GOV. MIFFLIN 69, MUHLENBERG 44

» At Laureldale Feb. 5, the Mustangs jumped on Muhlenberg early using a 15-0 run in the first quarter. They never let up on their way to a victory that qualifies them for the Berks County playoffs.

Ben Walmer scored a gamehigh 24 point to head a trio of double-figure scorers for GM, which built a 39-18 lead in the first half. Casey Klahr added 18 points, and Bryce Black 11.

EXETER 51, WILSON 45 » At Gov. Mifflin Intermedia­te Feb. 9, Alex Javier scored 16 points, including the go-ahead basket midway through the fourth quarter, as the fifth-seeded Eagles (15-8) defeated the fourth-seeded Bulldogs (14-9) in a Berks Conference quarterfin­al.

Stevie Mitchell had 11 points and Sean McAndrew had 10 for Wilson.

EXETER 46, DANIEL BOONE 44 » At Birdsboro Feb. 5, Michelle Mesquita scored 15 points, Jordan Davis added 13 with a 3-pointer and the Eagles (2-8, 9-13) snuck past the Blazers (0-10, 5-17) in overtime of their Berks Conference game.

Kaylie Walker tallied 15 points for Daniel Boone.

CENTRAL DAUPHIN 45, GOV. MIFFLIN 20 » At Harrisburg Feb. 5, Kyra Hartman scored eight points with two 3-pointers, and Kayla DelVecchio added four, but the Mustangs (15-7) fell to the Rams (14-7) in non-league play.

Mifflin saw a 12-9 first-quarter lead reversed by CD into a 28-15 deficit going into the fourth.

DANIEL BOONE 89, WYOMISSING 43» At Wyomissing Feb. 6. Chris

and Joe Guiliano each won two individual races to key the Blazers’ Central Penn League victory over the Spartans.

Chris took the 100 fly in 55.82 and the 100 back in 57.21, in addition to swimming legs of Boone’s winning 200 medley (1:48.63) and 200 free relays (1:37.90).

Joe, in turn, headed the 200 IM (2;11.53) and 100 free (50.76) while contributi­ng to the 200 medley and 400 free (3:36.01) victories.

The Blazers got other individual firsts from Hunter Sprenkle in the 200 free (1:57.92), Justin Eves in the 50 free (24.07), Trevor Jackson in the 500 free (5:25.01) and David Ahakanian in the 100 breast (1:14.13). EXETER 96, BLUE MOUNTAIN 90» At Blue Mountain Feb. 5, Luke and Christophe­r Scoboria were the big winners for the Eagles as they edged Blue Mountain in their non-league meet.

Luke took the 200 free in 1:51.28 and the 100 fly in 56.67 while Christophe­r headed the 200 IM (2:11.26) and the 500 free (5:06.02). They both swam legs of Exeter’s winning relays: The 200 medley (1:47.06) and the 200 free (1:34.15).

Other Eagles winning individual events were Sam Istenes (diving, 203.70 points), Oliver Menet (100 free, 53.66), Anderson Chemey (100 back, 1:902.30) and Jared Weyandt (100 breast, 1:08.62).

Girls swimming

DANIEL BOONE 107, WYOMISSING 61 » At Wyomissing Feb. 6, Carlie Owens and NoElle Sprenkle each won two individual races to head the Blazers’ victory over the Spartans in their Central League meet.

Owens won the 50 free (26.28) and the 100 breast (1:10.33) while swimming a leg of Boone’s winning 200 free relay (1:50.14). Sprenkle took the 100 fly (1:06.31) and 500 free (6:03.82) in addition to swimming on the Blazers’ first-place 200 medley (2:02.15) and 400 free relay (4;10.52).

The Blazers’ other individual winners were Erin Goudie in the 200 free (2;12.99), Rachel Woomer in the 100 free (58.48) and Regina McCarter in the 100 back (1:08.56).

EXETER 111, BLUE MOUNTAIN 74» At Blue Mountain Feb. 5, Brooke Bollinger and Carey Burkhardt each won pairs of individual races to key the Eagles in their nonleague victory over Blue Mountain.

Bollinger headed the 200 free (2:0.83) and the 100 fly (1:03.45) while Burkhardt won the 50 free (28.15) and 500 free (5:54.30). They also contribute­d to Exeter winning the 200 medley (2:00.62) and 200 free relays (4;15.93.

Also winning individual races for Exeter were MacKenzie Gray (diving, 180.25 points), Sophia Scoboria (100 free, 57.59) and Katherine Kerchner (100 breaset, 1:17.79).

Ryan Marsden (691), John Arms (661) and John Garner (622) were Boone’s other top performers. EXETER 3, ANTIETAM 0 » At Antietam Feb. 6, Tanner Schwenk had a 661 as the Eagles swept their Berks Conference match.

Luke Ravel gave Exeter a 642, and Zach Prizer a 611. WYOMISSING 2, GOV. MIFFLIN1» At Berks Lanes Feb. 5, Joe Hardy rolled a 677 to lead the Spartans in their Berks Conference win over the Mustangs.

Top bowlers for Mifflin were Alex Coldren (633) and Matt Latham (615).
