Wilson, Schuylkill Valley swimmers break records at CPL meet

Records fell at the Central Penn League Swimming Championsh­ips last weekend at Wilson, with senior Andrew Sillhart and the hosts having their share of milestones, along with the Schuykill Valley sprint pair of Colin Gwiazdowsk­i and Marlee Rickert.

GIRLS

200 MEDLEY RELAY » The Gov. Mifflin foursome of Corinne McCurley, Rachel Johnson, Ava Enriquez and Emma Steckiel repeated as champion in 1:49.94, followed by Twin Valley’s Helen Lahmann-Metcalfe, Rachel Gebhard, Kristin Gebhard and Reagan Wittorff in 1:51.10. 200 FREE » Reading senior Annie Moser placed first in 1:58.05.

200 IM » Muhlenberg sophomore Cameron Gring cruised to victory with a 2:05.52, ahead of the Gov. Mifflin pair of sophomore Steckiel (2:09.35) and junior Enriquez (2:15.55).

50 FREE » Schuylkill Valley sophomore Rickert broke the CPL meet record with a 23.67, eclipsing the 2013 record of 23.87. Twin Valley’s Wittorff and Lahmann-Metcalfe came 2nd and 3rd. 100 BUTTERFLY » Daniel Boone junior Rachel Woomer took the title with a 59.50.

200 FREE RELAY » Gov. Mifflin maintained its relay

dominance with Courtney Hubric, Brown, Connar Melcher and Steckiel winning in 1:37.69.

100 FREE » Freshmen went 1-2 with Rylee Wentzel of Wilson (53.72) edging Reading’s Fay Moser (54.62). Twin Valley’s Wittorff was third in 54.72.

500 FREE » Schuylkill Valley’s Rickert made a big distance change but got the same result as champion in the 500 free in 5:06.47, more than 15 seconds ahead of the field.

100 BACK » Muhlenberg’s Gring won her second event with a 56.85 in the 100 back. 100 BREAST » Daniel Boone senior Carlie Owens took the title with a 1:07.52, with Exeter senior Brooke Bollinger placing second in 1:07.90.

400 FREE RELAY » Gov. Mifflin capped its relay sweep with Enriquez, Brown, Hubric and Steckiel winning in 3:33.64.

DIVING » Wilson senior Mary Warker was a repeat champion (504.45), followed by Gov. Mifflin junio Morgan MacMahon (471.15).

BOYS

200 MEDLEY RELAY » The Wilson team of Jack Werner, Max Valeriano, Andrew Sillhart and Caleb Eberly snapped a record from 1999 (1:36.41, Hempfield) by coming in at 1:35.84 for a CPL meet record.

200 FREE » Exeter junior Luke Scoboria took gold with a 1:46.59.

200 IM » Wilson junior Donovan Curran was champion in 1:5.12, followed by Daniel Boone freshman Chris Guiliano, who kicked off a successful meet with a 1:48.36.

50 FREE » Schuylkill Valley senior Gwiazdowsk­i broke the meet record with his 21.09, a tenth of a second ahead of the 2010 mark of Muhlenberg’s Zach Chow. 100 BUTTERFLY » Wilson senior Sillhart smashed the meet (51.09) and pool (50.95) records with his 50.48 swim, well ahead of runner-up Roanoke Shirk of Muhlenberg (52.73).

200 FREE RELAY » Wilson won the race in 1:26.28 thanks to Malachi Eberly, Alexander Vottero, Werner and Caleb Eberly.

100 FREE » Brothers Chris and Joe Guiliano battled for the top spot with freshman Chris edging senior Joe to the wall with a 47.60. Joe finished in 48.03.

500 FREE » Wilson junior Andrew Thomas took the title in 4:53.75, followed by Schuylkill Valley’s Dawson Mohl (4:57.90).

100 BACK » Boone senior Joe Guiliano got his gold medal in the 100 back with a 52.87 in a split-second finish over SV’s Gwiazdowsk­i, who finished in 52.91.

100 BREAST » Wilson swimmers went 1-2 with Matthew Eisenberg (1:01.26) topping Cameron Cavanaugh (1:02.45).

400 FREE RELAY » Wilson capped its superb meet with another record-setting race with Curran, Werner, Vottero and Caleb Eberly finishing in 3:10.88, besting the 2010 record of 3:11.28. Gov. Mifflin’s Trevor Woolwine, Shane Stauffer, Aiden McCurley and Tim Mangan were second (3:13.91). DIVING » Gov. Mifflin sophomore Noah Clipman took the title with 514.40.
