SALT Performing Arts to present ‘Titanic The Musical’ April 13 to 29

-

SALT Performing Arts presents the Tony Award winning drama, Titanic the Musical, April 13-29. The sinking of the Titanic in the early hours of April 15, 1912, remains the quintessential disaster of the twentieth century. The fact that the finest, largest, strongest ship in the world — called, in fact, the “unsinkable” ship — should have been lost during its maiden voyage is so incredible that, had it not actually happened, no author would have dared to contrive it. Maury Yeston and Peter Stone’s musical examines the lives of the passengers aboard the doomed luxury liner Titanic — those in first class, middle class and steerage — in the nights leading up the ship’s fatal encounter with an iceberg at sea.

“When most people think of Titanic as a production, they think of the movie. Our show is actually more like a documentary-turned-musical,” explains Lauren McComas, SALT President and Artistic Director. “Spanning all classes, Titanic captures the actual stories from the whole range of humanity aboard the ship: from boiler room workers to first-class attendants, from third-class ticketholders scraping together their lifesavings for the promise of the American dream, to some of the wealthiest men of the Victorian age, including John Jacob Astor and Benjamin Guggenheim. And yet the biggest character of the show is Titanic herself, and the actual events and timeline that led up to her sinking.”

Titanic will be the biggest and most spectacular production produced by SALT Performing Arts. The cast consists of 40 talented performers aging from 6 to 70 and a full live orchestra. Veterans and several talented SALT newbies make up this cast from Chester and the surrounding counties.

Directed by Elizabeth Hennessey, Titanic runs approximately 2.5 hours with an intermission. Concessions are available for purchase in the lobby from Cookies by Design before the show and during intermission. Reserved seating is offered.
