‘Team Mom’ Toth protecting the plate for LVC softball

Junior Savannah Toth is in her second season starting behind the plate for the Lebanon Valley softball team. She’s a solid performer and a team leader.

Toth, a Daniel Boone graduate, is hitting .316 (12for-38) with four doubles, four runs scored and 10 runs batted in. Behind the plate, she has made just one error on 52 chances (.981), throwing out three wouldbe base stealers.

Toth, a captain, missed her freshman season with an injury but earned AllMac Commonweal­th second team honors after starting all 40 games at backstop and hitting .298 with a team-high 31 runs batted in.

“Savannah has learned to call a great game and has worked hard to earn a power-hitting position in our lineup,” coach Erin Whitman said. “She has a strong worth ethic both on the field and off.”

Toth has also earned a nickname – “Team Mom” – because she has become such a great leader.

“Savannah’s teammates really look up to her,” Whitman said.

The Dutchwomen stand 6-6 overall and 2-2 in league play after splitting a league doublehead­er against Hood on April 5 in Frederick, Md. Toth had a hit in each game, the Dutchwomen winning the first game 5-2 and lost the second game 6-4.

BEKAH SLATTERY (DANIEL BOONE) » The Lock Haven junior was named PSAC Central Division Pitcher of the Week on April 2. Senior teammate Amanda Loar (Boyertown) was selected as the division’s Athlete of the Week. Slattery, a 5-foot-5 left-hander, was 2-0 with a 1.95 earned run average the previous week with victories over Slippery Rock (6-2) and Millersvil­le (4-2). In 14.1 innings, she struck out 21 batters with 12 against Millersvil­le. Outfielder Loar hit .600 (6-for10) in four games last week, all victories. She had eight runs batted in as the Bald Eagles moved to 11-9 on the season.

NOLAN PERUGINI (EXETER) » The junior was named PSAC Athlete of the Week on April 2 for his play with the Kutztown men’s tennis team after he helped the Golden Bears pick up their first league victory, an 8-1 triumph over Millersvil­le on March 31 in Millersvil­le. He won his No. 3 singles, 6-4, 6-2 and his No. 2 doubles 8-5. Perugini is 6-2 in singles and 4-4 in doubles to help Kutztown stand 6-3 overall and 2-2 in league play during both the fall and spring seasons. DRAKE KOCH (EXETER) » The 6-foot-1 junior right-hander has a 1-0 record with a 2.89 earned run average in five games and two starts for the Misericord­ia baseball team, the Cougars 12-6 overall and 4-2 in MAC Freedom play after a 5-0 non-league loss to Widener on April 4 in Dallas. Koch picked up his victory when he started and worked five innings in a 13-5 triumph over Delaware Valley on March 25 in Dallas. He gave up one hit, one earned run, no walks and five strikeouts. He had a season-high 11 strikeouts in a15-4 victory over Kenyon. He didn’t get the victory, the Cougars scoring 12 runs after he left the game in the seventh.

RAE SANTORA (DANIEL BOONE) » The Rider senior distance runner finished second in the 3,000 meter steeplecha­se at the Rider 5 Way meet March 31 in Lawrencevi­lle, N.J. Her time was 11:49.70. She finished seventh in that event in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Outdoor Championsh­ips last spring with a time of 11:23.97. Santora opened the outdoor season with the Broncs at the Penn Challenge on March 24 in Philadelph­ia. She finished 26th in the 1,500 meter run with a time of 4:51.50. BROOKE WENSEL (BERKS CATHOLIC) » The junior shortstop continues to give it her all for the Lafayette softball team, the Leopards 4-25 overall and 1-5 in Patriot League play. She had two hits and four runs batted in in an 8-5 non-league victory over St. Peter’s on March 29 in Jersey City, N.J. She’s started all 29 games and leads the team with a .272 average on 22 hits in 81 at-bats. She has three doubles, a triple, three home runs and 17 runs batted in. She’s 5-for-5 in stolen bases and in the field has made 10 errors on 137 chances (.927). MATTHEW REINHART (BERKS CATHOLIC) » The Virginia Tech sophomore finished ninth out of 21 throwers in the javelin throw at the talent-laden Florida Relays on March 29-31 in Gainesvill­e. He recorded a personal record heave of 203 feet, 5

inches which was one inch better than his effort in last year’s Atlantic Coast Conference Outdoor Championsh­ips when he finished fourth. Reinhart kicked off the outdoor season by finishing fourth in the javelin at the Weems Baskin Relays March 23-24 in Columbia, S.C. with a toss of 195 feet, 3 inches.

TAYLOR DIMMERLING (BERKS CATHOLIC) » The 5-foot-1 freshman midfielder has come up big in the last four games for the Cabrini women’s lacrosse team. She has 10 goals including three in a 22-4 victory over Neumann on April 4. She has 14 goals and two assists along with 17 ground balls, two draw controls and three caused turnovers. The Cavaliers used Dimmerling’s hot streak to lift their record to 5-5 overall and 4-0 in Colonial States Athletic Conference play after the win over Neumann.
