The 2018-2019 Berks County Dairy Princess is excited to promote the Berks County Dairy Industry. Samantha Haag was crowned as the 2018-19 Berks County Dairy Princess on May 5 at the Mohrsville Church of the Brethren.

Helping Samantha promote the Berks County Dairy Industry this year will be Mikayla Davis who was named the 2018-19 Berks County Alternate Dairy Princess and Julie Eisenhower who was named the 2018-19 Berks County Li’l Miss Dairy Princess. They will also be assisted by a group of Dairy Ambassadors. This year’s Berks County Dairy Ambassadors are Ayla Blatt, Mackenzie Blatt, Kennedi Cavalier, Haley Evans, Natalie Grumbine, Sara Haag, Kristin Johns, Megan Krick, and Stephanie Younker.

Samantha is the 19-yearold daughter of David and Mary Haag of Mohrsville. Samantha grew up on a dairy farm that her brother Michael and his family now own. She currently works for Way-Har Farm Market LLC as the Wholesale and Office Manager. She also helps on her Grandfather Moyer’s 14-acre orchard. In her spare time, she teaches acrobatics, helps at church, line dances and loves spending time with her family and friends. Samantha has been very active in the Berks County Dairy Promotion Program. She was a Li’l Miss Dairy Princess, a Dairy Ambassador and Berks County Alternate Dairy Princess in 201617.

Mikayla is the 17-yearold daughter of Michael and Angela Davis of Leesport. She is a member of the Northern Berks 4-H Dairy club and enjoys exhibiting her animals at local and state shows. She also works part-time at Skull Hill Dairy. Mikayla is finishing her junior year at Schuylkill Valley High School where she is involved in Ag Club, chorus, PYEA, softball and basketball. She has also been active in the Berks County Dairy Promotion Program. Mikayla was a Li’l Miss Dairy Princess and a Dairy Ambassador for the past 4 years.

As part of the evening banquet, Samantha performed her skit entitled “Dr. MooLittle”. Dr. MooLittle taught the audience how farmers and vets care for their cows. “Farmers and vets care about the health of their animals so they can provide some of Dr. MooLittle’s favorite dairy treats like “Kifer”! Kifer is like a yogurt smoothie that not only tastes amazing but it detoxes my body, improves my immune system and keeps my hair healthy!” Mikayla presented a speech entitled, Organic: Do the Benefits Outweigh the Cost? She wants to remind consumers that “the next time you go to the grocery store, you will remember that all food produced is safe and nutritious and that you should choose the products that is best for your family.”

Samantha and Mikayla also answered an impromptu question, “If you could solve one problem in the world today, what would it be and why?” Samantha’s answer was that she would solve the price farmers are paid for milk. Mikayla’s answer was that she would like to feed the 800 million people who are suffering from hunger and malnutrition.

Also, performing at the pageant were three young ladies who were competing for the title of Berks County Li’l Miss Dairy Princess. They were: Julie Eisenhower the 5-yearold daughter of Scott and Vicki Eisenhower of Bethel, Sarah Riegel the 5-year-old daughter of Steve and Ann Riegel of Bethel, and Preslee Younker the 4-year-old daughter of Bradley and Kellee Younker of Mohrsville. The judges had a tough decision as the young ladies did a wonderful job of entertaining the audience. In the end, Julie was named as the 2018-19 Berks County Li’l Miss Dairy Princess.

The Berks County Dairy Princess Promotion Committee would like to thank Taylor Pool, 2017-18 Berks County Dairy Princess and Malaina Rhoads, 201718 Berks County Li’l Miss Dairy Princess on a wonderful job of promoting and representing the Berks County Dairy Industry this past year. They spent countless hours at local events from stores to farms, parades and schools and many other places in between talking to the public about the importance of dairy products in your diet as well as how important the dairy farms are here in Berks County.

Emcee for the pageant was Jennifer Grimes a former Berks County and Pennsylvania State Dairy Princess. Judges were Richard Frantz a former English instructor from Bethel and Jodie Heffner a dairy farmer from Pine Grove.
