Dollar General opens area’s newest location

AMITY » Dollar General has opened its newest location at 103 N. Monocacy Creek Road just off Route 422.

The store, which opened its doors in May, celebrated its official grand opening on Saturday, June 2.

The new location sits up on a slight hill just off westbound Route 422. The building is 9,100 square feet, with a sales floor of about 7,200 square feet, according to a company spokeswoman.

“Dollar General is committed to delivering a pleasant shopping experience that includes a convenient location, a wide assortment of merchandise and great prices on quality products,” Dan Nieser, Dollar General’s senior vice president of real estate and store development, said in a press release. “We hope our area customers will enjoy shopping at Dollar General’s new location.”

As of March 2, 2018, Dollar General operated 14,609 stores in 44 states, according to Petkovi. In fiscal year 2018, the company plans to complete approximately 2,000 real estate projects — including 900 new stores, 1,000 remodels and 100 relocations.

When choosing store locations, Dollar General takes the convenience factor into consideration, according to Angela Petkovi, a spokeswoman for the chain. She added that Dollar General stores typically serve customers within a three to 5-mile radius, or about a 10-minute drive.

“We also take demographic trends, competitive factors, traffic patterns and community concerns into consideration,” she

added.

Dollar General stores employ approximately six to 10 people, depending on the need, according to the company. Those interested in applying for a position at the Amity store can visit the career section at www. dollargeneral.com.

The Amity Township location’s grand opening featured giveaways to the first 50 adult shoppers and the first 200 shoppers, as well as other giveaways.

Dollar General sells name-brand and private brand merchandise such as health and beauty products, home cleaning supplies, housewares, stationery, seasonal items and basic clothing.
