Early Bird Fiddle Festival Join musicians and music fans from all over Berks County for this year’s Early Bird Fiddle Festival 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on June 9. This FREE event will highlight bluegrass, Celtic, and folk music on stage and in the field at the Berks County Heritage Center. The Concert Schedule: 10:05 to 10:50 am Kick Off with Matt Miskie – Vocal and Guitar Music; 11 to 11:45 am The Werner Family – Traditiona­l and Gospel Bluegrass; 11:50 to 12:45 pm OPEN STAGE (10 minute spots); 12:50 to 1:30 pm Full Circle Music Society – Acoustic Music; 1:35 to 3:30 pm Fiddle Contest (register 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. by the stage); 3:35 to 4:15 pm Butch Imhoff – Acoustic Music; 4:20 to 5:10 pm Buffalo Mountain Grass – Autumn and Canyon Moore; and 5:30 to 7 pm Dave Kline & The Mountain Folk Band.

Day of Science at the Berks County Heritage Center

Join us to explore STEM at the Berks County Heritage Center, 1102 Red Bridge Rd., Reading (Bern Townshi). Learn how the Wertz’s Red Bridge was built, than take a turn at building your own mini bridge. Discover how and why the Union Canal and other Canals were built. Get a chance to try an experiment that was originally created by Ben Franklin. Then, join us by the creek to learn a little about what it takes for something to rot, and why certain objects will never rot away.

Family Science Day will be held on Saturday, June 30th from 9:00 am, to 12:30 pm at the Berks County Heritage Center. This is a FREE program designed for children Ages 7-12 and their families. Please call to register by June 22nd. The cost of the program is $5 per family.

Sewing Circle: Knit in Public Day

An old-fashioned sewing circle offered the opportunit­y for new and experience­d stitchers of all crafts to gather and exchange skills and camaraderi­e. In our era of technology, it is fun to take a step back and renew these opportunit­ies. Each person should bring a project of their own to work on, whether it’s sewing, embroidery, quilting, knitting, crocheting etc. Bring a project to work on and join us for “Knit in Public Day” held 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on June 9 at Berks County Heritage Center, 1102 Red Bridge Road, Reading. Get Outdoors Day at Blue Marsh Lake

Get Outdoors on Saturday, June 9, from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at Blue Marsh Lake, Dry Brooks Day Use Area, 1268 Palisades Dr., Leesport. Join us at Blue Marsh Lake’s day Use Area by the Lakeview pavilion and along the Boat Beach to visit over 50 organizati­ons promoting outdoor recreation and safety. Check out the Penn Star 4 helicopter or take in a wildlife presentati­on by the Red Creek Wildlife Center. Bring your mountain bike and go on a guided ride with the BAMBA, or try your luck at catching a catfish in the fish pond. Visit the numerous displays, and meet Smokey Bear or Bobber the Water Safety Dog mascots. Play the GO Day Scavenger Hunt and have the opportunit­y to win a free prize. Search for your Roots: Genealogy 101

Betty Sustello from the Berks County Genealogic­al Society will explain how to get started on your genealogy June 10 at 2 p.m. at Berks County Heritage Center. She will talk about gathering informatio­n and good places to start looking. Bring along a pen and notebook. This is a free event. For more informatio­n, call 610-374-8839. Concert: Vinyl Groov On June 10, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Gring’s Mill amphitheat­er, 2083 Tulpehocke­n Road in Wyomissing, Vinyl Groov will take you on a fantastic ride back to the music that had you dancin’ all night, and kicks off our Summer Arts in Berks Parks series. Enjoy the golden sounds of Motown, the silky smooth sounds of Philly soul, the funky tunes from Memphis Down-HomeE and the up-tempo Classic Rock. No Rain Date. Refreshmen­ts available.
