- By Carl Hess

Thirteen proved to be a lucky number for the Fleetwood Rotary Club. After seemingly endless weekends of dismal weather, the sun was shining brightly for the 13th Annual Fleetwood Rotary Club’s Show of Wheels on June 9.

Held in the Fleetwood Community Park, a record number of 308 entries turned out for the annual show which topped the 300 mark for the first time in the history of the popular event. Berks, Schuylkill, Lebanon, Lehigh, Montgomery, Lancaster, York and Dauphin counties

were represented. The farthest entry logged 110 miles on their odometer to get to the event.

Funds raised at the annual Show of Wheels support Farmer’s Night, Fleetwood Fire Co., Fleetwood Library, City Thrift Shop, scholarships for Fleetwood and Oley high school students and Operation Backpack. Various community projects including park improvements in Fleetwood and Maidencreek also benefit from the funds raised.

Nearly 90 trophies were awarded for the various classes and categories with the coveted “Best of Show” trophy going to Wes Cassel of Boyertown for his beautiful 1955 Chevy Bel Air.

In addition to the cars, trucks and motorcycles there was also a 50/50 drawing, Chance Auction, DJ sound entertainment and the popular Rubber Duck Race which is unique to that event.

Next year’s 14th annual edition of Show of Wheels is scheduled for Saturday, June 8, 2019.
