4-foot python found on street

The Animal Rescue League of Berks County posed that question on Facebook Friday, July 6, after it was discovered that a Ball Python was seen crossing a township street.
The snake was seen on the 200 block of Hickory Road at around 9 p.m. on Thursday, July 5.
The python was dropped off at the Animal Rescue League of Berks County after an individual found the snake slithering in the area.
According to reports, the snake is friendly, in good health and believed to be someone’s pet.
The Ball Python is a species typically found in sub-Saharan Africa and is a non-venomous constrictor.
According to reports from
WFMZ, Elisabeth Manwiller, the Animal Rescue League’s deputy director, said the python doesn’t seem to pose any danger to the public.
“If anything, the threat is him being outside. He’s not meant to be outside,” Manwiller told WFMZ. “He’s not a wild animal, so there is more threat to him than there actually is to any human.”
After spending a day at the Animal Rescue League’s Cumru Township headquarters, the snake was taken to the Venom Institute in Leesport until the reptile’s owner can be found.
The Animal Rescue League of Berks County said in a Facebook post that the reptile was being transported because the facility does not have adequate space or habitats for the creature.
According to an updated post from Rudy Arceo, the Venom Institute’s director and founder, “The Beautiful Ball Python was picked up by Venom Institute and will be staying with us as an educational ambassador for its species. We will also be working with ARL with reptile related rescue and adoptions.”
