Gilbertsville man stabbed in Pottstown
POTTSTOWN >> A man is in critical condition and another is in custody after a stabbing was reported in Pottstown late Thursday night.
Officers from the Pottstown Police Department responded to the 500 block of North Franklin Street for a report of a stabbing on Thursday, Jan. 3, at approximately 11:55 p.m.
Upon arrival, officers located the victim, Joshua Shupard, 20, of Gilbertsville. The victim had a stab wound to the chest and was being rendered aid by a resident, Joel Glover-Nation, who came outside upon hearing a disturbance, police said.
Goodwill Ambulance personnel arrived and took over care of the victim. He was transported by ambulance to the Reading Hospital where he underwent emergency surgery. He is listed in critical condition.
Officers also located the suspect, Sean Emmel, 24, of Pottstown as well as a witness to the incident. Emmell was taken into custody at the scene without incident.
Emmell is currently awaiting a preliminary arraignment on charges of criminal attempt at homicide, aggravated assault and related offenses, according to authorities.
Police have not specified what circumstances led to the stabbing.
