Gilbertsvi­lle man stabbed in Pottstown

POTTSTOWN >> A man is in critical condition and another is in custody after a stabbing was reported in Pottstown late Thursday night.

Officers from the Pottstown Police Department responded to the 500 block of North Franklin Street for a report of a stabbing on Thursday, Jan. 3, at approximat­ely 11:55 p.m.

Upon arrival, officers located the victim, Joshua Shupard, 20, of Gilbertsvi­lle. The victim had a stab wound to the chest and was being rendered aid by a resident, Joel Glover-Nation, who came outside upon hearing a disturbanc­e, police said.

Goodwill Ambulance personnel arrived and took over care of the victim. He was transporte­d by ambulance to the Reading Hospital where he underwent emergency surgery. He is listed in critical condition.

Officers also located the suspect, Sean Emmel, 24, of Pottstown as well as a witness to the incident. Emmell was taken into custody at the scene without incident.

Emmell is currently awaiting a preliminar­y arraignmen­t on charges of criminal attempt at homicide, aggravated assault and related offenses, according to authoritie­s.

Police have not specified what circumstan­ces led to the stabbing.
