1st Street Players to kick off 2019 season with classic play “Our Town.”
1st Street Players is proud to announce the first show of the 2019 season, Thorton Wilder’s classic play “Our Town.”
A landmark in American drama, Thornton Wilder’s Pulitzer prizewinning “Our Town” tells the story of a small town, Grover’s Corners, New Hampshire, in order to tell us the story of every town, the whole world over.
Narrated by the “Stage Manager,” we follow the Gibbs and Webb families, residents of Grover’s Corners, through 12 years of life changes — from the mundane in Act I, “Daily Life,” to the romantic in Act II, “Love and Marriage,” to the devastating in Act III, “Death and Eternity.” Through the young lovers Emily and George, their strong and loving parents, and the many other Grover’s Corners’ locals, Wilder delivers universal truths about what it means to be human.
“Oh, earth,” Emily Webb exclaims towards the play’s end, “you’re too wonderful for anyone to realize you.” With humor, wit, and exception- ally powerful storytelling, Our Town offers a unique opportunity for audience members to make precisely that realization.This show still resonates with audience due to its timeless messages of mortality, appreciating life, companionship and marriage, love, and the circle of life. The show was way ahead of its time when it was first produced in the 30s.
This production is directed by Bill Eschbach. It features an all-age cast with performances by Collin T. Bollinger, Molly O’Brien, Bill Leech, Jessica Pennington, Kevin Wade, Mary Britton, Sarah Geiger, Jerry Rawson, Brian Miller, Ginny Rathman, Emilee Lawson, William Falkner, Eric Warner, Tiffany Warner, Logan Patton, Deb Kasdras,Collin Warner, Johanna Falkner, Lindsay Rawson, and Bill Eschbach.
Performances run March 1 and 2 at 8 p.m. and March 3 at 2 p.m. at the Birdsboro Community Theater, 301 E. First St., Birdsboro.
