Negative blood types in short supply in Berks region
Miller-Keystone Blood Center issued an urgent appeal today for blood donors with the O-negative, A-negative, B-negative and AB-negative blood types, as well as the O-positive blood type and platelets.
The center is in critical need of donors with RHnegative blood types, according to Qiana Cressman, director of donor recruitment and development.
The supply of RH-positive blood types is stable, she said.
“Blood donations typically decrease this time of year due to holiday activity, combined with inclement weather and seasonal illnesses,” Cressman said in a news release. “However, more than 450 donors are needed every day in our community to help in the care of cancer patients, accident victims, premature infants and others requiring lifesaving transfusions at our regional hospitals. The demand at our community hospitals remains steady.”
As incentive, donors will receive a long sleeve blood center through Dec. 22.
Those donating from Dec. 23 through 31 will receive double bonus points that can be exchanged for items in the center’s online

The Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture’s Bureau of Dog Law Enforcement warned Pennsylvania dog owners looking to purchase new or renewal licenses of a fraudulent website selling dog licenses online.

Rather than using a search engine to reach a website to purchase a dog license, type www.licenseyourdogpa.pa.gov directly into your browser’s address bar;
When in doubt, call your county treasurers office. Each county treasurer has a different process; while Donors can also visit GIVEaPINT.org to schedule an appointment.
