Dunkin’ supports food bank
The company made a donation and workers volunteered at the warehouse
Helping Harvest Food Bank received some help last week from area Dunkin’ coffee and doughnut shops.
Dunkin’ representatives from the greater Philadelphia region presented a $17,500 check to the food bank that serves Berks and Schuylkill counties.
The donation Thursday came from the efforts of Dunkin’s Roast Hunger campaign and will support the food bank’s mission to distribute food to people in need.
Employees of area Dunkin’ shops also spent the day sorting and packing food at Helping Harvest’s warehouse, 117 Morgan Drive, Spring Township.
“The Roast Hunger campaign is one of the most generous and impactful programs we have,” said Jay Worrall, president of the food bank. “For the Berks area franchisees and their employees to come in and volunteer for a day while making this donation is tremendous support for the work of Helping Harvest.”
Through the Roast Hunger campaign, Philadelphia-area Dunkin’ restaurants donated 10 percent of all Thanksgiving Day coffee sales to five regional food banks, including the Greater Berks Food Bank.
The campaign ran from Thanksgiving Day to Dec. 31 with area franchisees donating $1 from each large cup of coffee purchased using a DD Perks bonus card.
More than 100,000 people
throughout Berks and Schuylkill counties — of which 45,000 are children — face food insecurity, according to Helping Harvest’s website. The food bank collects, purchases, stores and distributes over 7 million pounds of food annually to more than 320 community partners throughout Berks and Schuylkill Counties.
