Unruh wins 285-pound title
Eagles senior defeats Conrad Weiser’s Adam Kase in championship match
Exeter senior Robbie Unruh pinned Conrad Weiser’s Adam Kase Saturday at Spring Grove to win the Class 3A 285-pound title in the District 3 Wrestling Championships.
Unruh led Kase 3-1 before scoring a fall in 5:52 in the all-Berks championship match. Unruh has defeated Kase twice in the last eight days and four times without a loss this season.
Wilson’s Josh Harkless and Daniel Boone’s JT Hogan each placed third and earned trips to the PIAA Wrestling Championships March 5-7 at Giant Center along with Unruh and Kase.
Unruh scored four straight falls to win his title. He pinned Shippensburg’s Sean Hess in 1:36 in the semifinals.
Kase defeated Charles Martin of Garden Spot 3-2 in the semifinals to get another shot at Unruh. But Unruh, like he did in the BCIAA Individual Tournament finals, the BCIAA Team Tournament semifinals and the District 3 Section I finals the previous Saturday, prevailed.
Harkless rebounded from a 7-3 semifinal loss to Central Dauphin’s Jackson Talbott to win two bouts by fall and place third at 195. Harkless also had two falls in the championship bracket on Friday.
Hogan rebounded from a 3-0 quarterfinal loss Friday night to eventual 145-pound champion Brooks Gable of
Dallastown. Hogan won four straight consolation bouts Saturday, two by fall, to place third.
Daniel Boone’s Canton Dolla reached the semifinals at 132 but lost three straight matches to finish sixth. Dolla lost 8-4 to Timothy Uhler of New Oxford in the semifinals before a 3-2 loss
to Shippensburg’s Dylan Ramsey in the consolation semifinals ended his bid to place in the top four and earn a PIAA berth.
Dolla forfeited in the bout for fifth. Central Dauphin won the team title with 162 points with Cumberland Valley a distant second with 108 points.
