Mifflin’s Breidegam claims regional title
Gov. Mifflin junior Emily Breidegam added more hardware to her collection Friday at Lancaster’s Leisure Lanes.
Breidegam, who also won the PIAA District 3 title, defeated Shikellamy’s Emma Fetterman 181-170 to win the Eastern PA Regional bowling title.
Fetterman was the top qualifier after posting a fivegame total of 1,168. Breidegam was second with a 1,085.
Breidegam had a bye into the semifinals before defeating Freedom’s Chloe O’Donnell 223-194 to move into the championship match.
The top 12 bowlers made it to the final bracket and also clinched a spot in the Pennsylvania State Championships.
Other Berks girls state qualifiers include Wilson’s Tori Nolan (1,052), Gov. Mifflin’s Alyssa Breidegam (1,048), Gov. Mifflin’s Andria Addis (997) and Wilson’s Sydney Binkley (981).
O’Donnell, Pennridge’s Maribeth Baker, Shikellamy’s Sierra Pehowic, Northern Lebanon’s Aliza Shirk, Shikellamy’s Sydney Knauer and Truman’s Law’ren Betterson are also headed to states.
In boys, Daniel Boone’s Alex Horton and Gov. Mifflin’s Matt Latham qualified for the state tournament.
Horton rolled a 1,197 to finish as the top qualifier. Latham had a 1,080 to finish in 10th.
Horton fell in the semifinals to Shikellamy’s Carter Thomas 245-224. Latham was eliminated after he finished second to Northern Lebanon’s Ambrose Shirk in the opening round quad match.
Also qualifying for states were regional champion Matt Hanson of SpringFord, Thomas, Martin Grace of North Penn, Shirk, Derek Warfel of Penn Manor, Drew Sassaman of Danville, Tyrus Current of Cocalico, Kyle Kizis of Danville, Eli McKercher of Shikellamy and Kolby Bennett of Cedar Crest.
Saturday in the Eastern PA Regional team tournament, four Berks squads qualified for states.
In boys, Exeter finished sixth in the qualifying round before falling to Shikellamy in the quarterfinals.
In girls, Gov. Mifflin finished first, Muhlenberg fourth and Wilson fifth in qualifying.
Wilson defeated Muhlenberg in the quarterfinals before falling to Mifflin in the semifinals.
Mifflin fell to Shikellamy in the championship.
Gov. Mifflin’s Alyssa Breidegam rolled a 711 and Muhlenberg’s Bryanna Rader a 648 as both were named to the regional AllStar team. Breidegam had a high game of 288.
The Pennsylvania State Bowling Championships take place March 13 and 14 at North Versailles Bowl in East Pittsburgh.
