- By Steven Henshaw MediaNews Group

A Reading woman was arrested Feb. 24 after stealing 12 packages of bacon at the Giant Food store on Lancaster Avenue in Cumru Township, three days after she shoplifted eight packages of shrimp from the same store, authorities said.

Heath A. Creasy, 36, was committed to Berks County Prison in lieu of a total of $30,000 bail to await a hearing in the two separate retail theft cases following arraignment Monday night before Senior District Judge Thomas M. Gauby Sr. in Reading Central Court.

According to Cumru police:

Officers were called to the store at 600 E. Lancaster Ave. about 5:45 p.m. Feb. 24 by a loss prevention officer who reported a man and woman were being detained for shoplifting.

A police officer asked Creasy what she had in the bag she was holding. Creasy open the bag, containing a dozen packages of Oscar Meyer bacon, valued at about $100.

The officer checked a law enforcement crime database that showed Creasy had a prior retail theft conviction.

The loss prevention officer told the policeman that the store security camera showed Creasy committed another recent theft at the store. On Feb. 24 about 8 p.m. she was seen placing eight bags of shrimp, worth a total of about $192, into a shopping bag and leaving the store without paying.

Because of her prior retail theft conviction, she was charged with two misdemeanors. The man who took part in Feb. 21 night’s shoplifting had no prior conviction for retail theft so he was released after receiving a non-traffic citation, police said.

His name was not provided.
