District hires new superintendent
Administrator takes over July 1
Kimberly I. Minor may be new to the Exeter School District, but she feels right at home in the township and surrounding area.
“We lived in Amity Township 10 years,” she said of her family. “So I am very familiar with the Exeter community. We still shop there.”
Minor of Warwick Township, Chester County, was appointed superintendent of the district at a recent school board meeting.
Pursuant to a three-year contract effective July 1, she will receive an annual salary of $172,000.
Minor said she is looking forward to joining forces with Exeter’s staff and school board, and believes students benefit when staff and leadership function as a focused and collaborative team.
She brings extensive experience in varied educational roles to the district. For the past 25 years, Minor has served in diverse capacities as a teacher, curriculum coordinator, executive director, consultant and principal. She currently serves as chief organization officer for the Upper Dublin School District, Upper Dublin Township, Montgomery County, a position she has held the last four years.
She also worked in the Perkiomen Valley and Phoenixville school districts in Montgomery and Chester counties, respectively.
Minor earned a doctorate in educational leadership from Immaculata University, Chester County; a Master of Education in secondary education and a Bachelor of Arts in cultural anthropology with a minor in ethnic studies, both from West Chester University.
She received certification as a principal from Alvernia University.
Minor grew up in Chester County and graduated from Owen J. Roberts High School, South Coventry Township.
Her husband, Karel Minor, a nationally recognized leader in animal welfare, is president and CEO of Humane Pennsylvania, which operates the Humane Society of Berks County and Humane League of Lancaster County.
The couple have been married 28 years and have three daughters, ages 19, 17 and 15.
“I am so excited to begin my work in Exeter,” Kimberly Minor said. “Exeter is well known for having a wonderful community, outstanding teachers, administrators, staff and students. The district also has a dedicated and thoughtful board of directors. I am confident that we will be able to build upon the successes of the past and create a bright future together.”
She replaces Robert Phillips.
David Hemberger, Exeter’s school board president, introduced Minor and welcomed her to the school district during the livestreamed board meeting.
Hemberger said he was anticipating greater opportunities for showing Minor around the district and introducing her to staff and community members, but noted that recommendations for social distancing and limiting gatherings to help slow the spread of COVID-19 have curtailed plans.
“Everyone she has talked to has wonderful things to say (about her),” Hemberger said.
“I am confident that we will be able to build upon the successes of the past and create a bright future together.”
