Donations to law enforcement

- By Mike Urban

More than a dozen local law enforcement organizations received hand sanitizer and disinfectant April 22 through donations from businesses and some help from two community groups looking to keep them safe during the pandemic.

The Berks County chapter of the Blue Knights Law Enforcement Motorcycle Club and the Jarrett Yoder Foundation delivered more than 140 gallons of disinfectant and almost 500 bottles of hand sanitizer to the Reading Police Department, the Berks County Sheriff’s Department, Berks County Prison corrections officers and 11 other area police departments.

“We want to make sure our law enforcement in our area are protected from COVID-19,” said Luis Gonzalez of the Blue Knights chapter and a former Reading patrolman.

The donations were delivered to City Hall and departments throughout the county by a motorcade that included Diane C. Yoder, who started the Jarett Yoder Foundation in memory of her son, who was a member

of the Pennsylvania National Guard and killed

in a helicopter crash in Afghanistan on April 9, 2013.

The organization provides housing and other services to veterans in need.

The disinfectant was donated by CityLine Construction in Allentown, and the hand sanitizer was donated by Eight Oaks Farm Distillery in New Tripoli.
