Man, 19, sought nude photos of teens, police say
A 19-year-old Amity Township man turned himself in to Berks County detectives April 21 on charges he asked two teen boys to send nude photos of themselves to him.
Matthew T. Schroeder of the first block of Winding
Creek Road was charged with two counts of unlawful contact with minors and illegal use of a communication facility following an investigation by detectives in the DA’s office.
According to investigators:
On Dec. 6, Amity police referred to county detectives allegations that Schroeder had contacted a 14-year-old boy via SnapChat through his cellphone from October to December, when the defendant blocked any further communications with the teen.
During these communications, Schroeder repeatedly requested nude and explicit photos of the teen, who never disseminated any such images.
Detectives identified Schroeder as the person who contacted the teen and obtained a warrant in January.
They served it at his residence and seized his cellphone, and a forensic examination yielded evidence related to the communications with the teen.
Detectives in February identified another victim based on information gleaned from cellphone.
Schroeder started contacting that boy, a 16-yearold, via SnapChat in December
2018 and requested nude images from the teen, who declined.
Schroeder again initiated contact with the youth via Snapchat in January 2020 and asked to engage in sexual activity with him.
Detectives filed the criminal charges against Schroeder, who was awaiting arraignment Tuesday night.
