No PSAC sports until ‘21
The Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference has suspended competition through Dec. 31, according to reports. That means all fall sports have been canceled, which a source confirmed to the Reading Eagle, and the start of winter sports will be delayed.
An official announcement by the conference, which includes Kutztown University, will be made today at 9 a.m.
School presidents met Tuesday to vote. That was scheduled to be followed by a meeting between the 18 PSAC athletic directors and the conference commissioner.
The PSAC is composed of 17 schools in Pennsylvania and one in West Virginia that compete at the NCAA Division II level.
In addition to Kutztown, the other schools in the conference are Bloomsburg, California of Pennsylvania, Clarion, East Stroudsburg, Edinboro, Gannon, IUP, Lock Haven, Mansfield, Mercyhurst, Millersville, Pitt-Johnstown, Seton Hill, Shepherd, Shippensburg, Slippery Rock and West Chester.
All but Gannon, Mercyhurst, PittJohnstown, Seton Hill and Shepherd are members of the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education. Shepherd is the only PSAC school in West Virginia.
Kutztown offers fall competition in men’s and women’s cross country, field hockey, football, women’s golf, women’s soccer, men’s and women’s tennis and women’s volleyball.
Other PSAC schools offer men’s golf and men’s soccer.
In the winter, Kutztown fields teams in men’s and women’s basketball, women’s bowling, women’s swimming, men’s and women’s indoor track and wrestling.
Last week two Division II conferences, the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association and the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, voted to suspend fall sports, joining the California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.
