By now, every football fan in Berks County knows Gov. Mifflin junior Nick Singleton is a threat to score any time he touches the football

Friday night at Daniel Boone, Singleton’s backfield mates, Brandon Strausser and Trey Rock, showed they have that capability as well.

The trio combined for 300 yards on the ground and seven touchdowns to carry undefeated Gov. Mifflin to a 54-13 win over Daniel Boone in a Berks Football League Section 1 game.

They did that on a total of just 17 carries.

“They take turns, they’re selfless,” said Gov. Mifflin coach Jeff Lang. “They’re rooting for each other.”

Some of those cheers came from a distance as each of the three running backs scored from more than 40 yards out as the Mustangs (3-0 Berks 1, 5-0) downed the Blazers (12, 2-3).

Strausser’s long TD run covered 53 yards after he earlier ran 25 yards for the game’s fist score.

Rock had a 41-yard TD run to go with a 1-yard plunge.

Singleton broke a 62-yarder for a score to go with scoring runs of 24 and 4 yards.

“My linemen did a good job blocking, my receivers did a good job and my coaches made the right calls,” Singleton said.

Singleton finished with 138 yards on eight carries. Strausser had 91 yards on just three rushes and Rock ran six times for 71 yards.

“Nick’s a very explosive young man,” Lang said. “He just runs violently.”

It was more than enough to overwhelm the Blazers, who lost their third straight after getting off to a 2-0 start.

Daniel Boone got a pair of field goals from Nate Willard, including a 38-yarder that had plenty of distance to spare. Xavier Coleman scored on a 9-yard run in the fourth quarter for the Blazers.

Gov Mifflin tacked on a late touchdown when backup quarterback Delsin McNeil threw a 20-yard pass to Braylon Stewart.

The Mustangs have won all five of their games by more than 40 points as they head into the regular season finale next Friday against Berks Catholic.

EXETER 36, KENNETT 8 » Ty Yocum ran for three touchdowns and quarterback Gavin McCusker added two rushing scores to lift the Eagles over Kennett of the ChesMont League on Saturday.

Exeter’s original weekend opponent, Hollidaysburg, cancelled their game due to a positive coronavirus case, leaving the Eagles without a game. Kennett also lost its game due to a positive case at Sun Valley. Exeter and Kennett met a day later.

The Eagles improved to 4-2.

BERKS CATHOLIC 47, MUHLENBERG

14 » Colby Newton and Connor Gundersen each ran for a pair of first-half touchdowns as Berks Catholic defeated Muhlenberg 47-14 Friday in a Berks Football League Section 1 game at Laureldale.

The Saints (3-0, 4-2) led 47-0 at halftime and kept alive their hopes for a Section 1 title; they’ll play at Gov. Mifflin next week to decide the championship.

The Saints rushed 36 times for 338 yards.

Aaron Shuker ran for a pair of touchdowns for the Muhls (0- 4, 0-6).

Trace Brown caught a 27-yard TD pass from Brad Hoffman for Berks Catholic.

Justin Small ran nine times for 91 yards for the Saints.

CONRAD WEISER 53, KUTZTOWN 20

» Logan Klitsch threw touchdown passes on each of his three passing attempts and seven different players scored touchdowns as visiting Conrad Weiser beat Kutztown 53-20 Friday in a Berks Football League Section 2 game.

The win pushes the Scouts (5-0, 6-0) into contention for a District 3 Class 4A playoff spot; the district will announce official pairings on Tuesday but Weiser currently is No. 4 in the power ratings. The top four teams qualify.

Klitsch threw scoring passes of 38 yards to Aanjay Feliciano, 16 yards to Fizz and 23 yards to Kisslingi as the Scouts took a 34-0 lead in the first quarter.

Cole Rothermel rushed for 111 yards and a TD for Weiser.

Cameron Jones returned a kickoff 55 yards for a score; he also scored on a 10-yard run.

Lennon Neiman rushed for 142 yards and a pair of TDs for the Cougars (0-4, 0-5), who trailed 47-7 at the half.

WYOMISSING 49, SCHUYLKILL VALLEY 0 » Friday at Leesport, Zach Zechman completed all four of his attempts, three for touchdowns, as the Spartans (4-0, 5-0) rolled past the Panthers (1- 4, 1-5). Fourteen different players carried the ball for Wyomissing, which rushed for 294 yards. Darren Brunner caught three passes for 57 yards and two touchdowns, Amory Thompson returned an interception 40 yards for a score and Timothy Fleischood returned a kickoff 94 yards for a TD.

TWINVALLEY42, HAMBURG38 » Vincenzo DiFabrizio was walking toward the locker room, a hand on his teammate’s shoulder, when he was congratulated on a great game.

“I can’t move,” DiFabrizio replied.

Twin Valley’s senior, a 5- 6, 195-pound two-way force, had nothing left to give. His last play was enough.

On a night dominated by long drives and longer touchdowns, the moment that sealed the outcome belonged to a defender.

DiFabrizio recovered a fumble that ended the final drive. Twin Valley outlasted Hamburg 42-38 in a Berks Football League Section 2 game at home Friday.

“I look to the left of me, I look to the right and I see my brothers,” DiFabrizio said. “I did it for them. Twenty years from now no one is going to know about this except for me. It felt amazing. I won the game for us.”

There was no shortage of stars and most of them were on offense.

Dom Caruso rushed for 208 yards, one touchdown and passed David Sabulsky for first place on Twin Valley’s all-time rushing list.

Trey Freeman caught a 46yard touchdown the first time he touched the ball for the Raiders. He raced 71 yards for a score the second time. He caught a 73-yard TD the third time. He found the end zone four times.

It was that kind of night. “They scored a touchdown, then we would,” DiFabrizio said. “I never gave up no matter how much they ran it up on us. You could see it on the last play.”

Hamburg scored 21 unanswered points after trailing 28-17 at halftime to put Twin Valley in a 10-point hole with 8:42 left.

Caruso cut the deficit to three with a 35-yard score and Nick Harris’ 51-yard touchdown catch put the Raiders back in front with 2:35 remaining.

DiFabrizio helped stop Hamburg’s previous drive to give Harris a chance at the go-ahead score when the senior broke up a fourthdown pass.

“He’s a good inside linebacker who plays above his weight,” Twin Valley coach Dean Owens said. “He maintains a positive attitude all the time. He was game captain tonight. He has really progressed over the years. Our players that we count on made plays when we needed them.”

Hamburg’s Wing-T put together some punishing drives and piled up points. Tristan Baer had two rushing touchdowns and a receiving score. Pierce Mason had a 40-yard TD run and Diohnny Ruiz had a 32yard touchdown.

The Hawks had to like their chances in the final minutes. No one was being stopped. They drove to the Raiders’ 32 and faced fourthand-2. Ruiz stretched for the first down, the ball popped loose and DiFabrizio was there.

FLEETWOOD43, UPPERDAUPHIN42 »

At Elizabethville, the Tigers were able to come up with a pair of key defensive plays late in the fourth quarter, including breaking up a two-point conversion pass in the final minutes, for a non-league win over the Trojans.

Upper Dauphin (2- 3) pulled within a point on Tyler Cleveland’s touchdown run with 4:48 left before Fleetwood (2-4) foiled the potential go-ahead scoring play.

Tanner Maddocks’ two-point conversion run early in the fourth quarter put the Tigers on top 4336; his 15-yard TD pass to Owen Maddocks gave his team the lead for good.
