Community celebrates Christmas in Birdsboro
All-day event featured holiday fun, crafts, food, shopping and tree lighting
Beginning with the Santa Run 5K and Fun Run in Rustic Park, the Birdsboro community celebrated a day of holiday fun, shopping, food and crafts at Christmas in Birdsboro, concluding with a tree lighting ceremony Dec. 11.
Families enjoyed holiday shopping at Santa’s Workshop Arts and Crafts Show featuring more than 40 crafters in the gym at Birdsboro Memorial Community Center. Children could make their own beaded snowflake ornament at the Children’s Craft area. For those age 21 and older, there was also a Beer and Wine Tasting featuring Ridgewood Winery, Oakbrook Brewing Company and Saucony Creek Brewery.
The Boone Area Library hosted a Gingerbread Contest, storytime and bake sale. First Street Players provided 20-minute performances at their building also.
That afternoon into the evening, there was live music, Santa, a Nativity scene, free food and free children’s activities enjoyed by a crowd at Main Bird Park.
Everything in the park was free.
Girl Scouts of Daniel Boone offered fire starters, M&M Pretzels, and soap and dog treats. Christine Bell gave out candy bags. Cub Scout Pack 595 had hot dogs and hot cocoa. Woman’s Club of Birdsboro had hot cider and cookies. Uncle Jack’s Corner had warm soup. Pip and Lily’s Loaded Tots, a new local food truck, gave out samples. MCC had baked potatoes and chili. American Legion Post 626 offered soup.
Immaculate Conception Academy had soft pretzels. Abundant Life Church offered nachos. Exeter Bible Church had popcorn. St. Mark’s Evangelical Lutheran Church gave out walking tacos.
“The wind and rain held off and we had a great time. At Mark’s we gave out about 400 walking tacos plus cookies with cookie cutters and recipes,” St. Mark’s posted on its Facebook page. “What a great event. So nice to see all of our neighbors and the many churches and groups who participated.”
The tree lighting ceremony concluded that day’s events with Ms. Pennsylvania 2022 Brianne Houck, of Birdsboro, officially
lighting the tree.
“It was such an honor to have been part of the Christmas in Birdsboro and to have been asked to light the tree,” Houck posted on social media. “As Birdsboro is my hometown (I grew up in a house about 1 mile away from this park, and my parents still live in that house), this was a particularly special event for me!”
Due to the wind advisory, the fireworks show and bonfire was canceled but organizers are working on rescheduling for New Year’s Eve.
