Essay contest winners honored
The Daniel Boone Optimist Club recently held an essay contest for the students of the Daniel Boone Area School District.
The topic for this year’s contest was “How does an Optimistic mindset change my Tomorrow?” The topic is selected by Optimist International each year.
The winning essay for 202122 was written by Avielle Sotomayor, a homeschooled student from Douglassville. The secondplace winner was Shawn Selbst, a senior at Daniel Boone High School, and the third-place winner was Natalie Alexander, also a senior at Daniel Boone High School.
These three students attended an Optimist Club meeting on April 7 along with their parents and read their essays to the Optimist Club members in attendance. They received their awards of $150, $100, and $50, respectively, as well as their framed certificates.
“We are very proud of all of the students who participated in the essay contest this year, and we congratulate these three students
in particular on their achievements,” the Club said in a statement. “We look forward to bringing out the best in our students as we offer many opportunities for their future success throughout the year.”
Among those opportunities,
the Daniel Boone Optimist Club sponsors an annual Halloween Parade, a Tree Lighting ceremony, an Essay Contest, an Oratorical Contest, an Easter Egg Hunt, a Scholarship program, a Trout Rodeo event and a Youth Golf program.
“These service projects cover many age groups and have made a lasting, positive impact in our community and with its young people.”
