Boyertown comes out of hibernation
Crowds fill Philadelphia Ave. to celebrate spring
Crowds packed Boyertown for the annual Coming Out of Hibernation event to celebrate spring and the end of hibernation with a funfilled event for all ages on Saturday, April 16.
“Our response this year has been wonderful,” said Amanda Machik, events coordinator for Building a Better Boyertown.
More than 65 craft and specialty food vendors lined Philadelphia Avenue, more than ever before in the event.
“We’ve had to turn away vendors because we filled up so quickly,” Machik said.
This trend continued with visitor turnout. The avenues were filled with people.
“The Coming Out of Hibernation event celebrates the arrival of spring and the end of hibernation, and we try to theme our vendors as much as possible,” Machik said.
Vendors offered honey, fresh flowers and plants as well as other items including soap, candles, hot sauce, sweet treats and gift items.
“The event is fun for the whole family, and children of all ages were able to find something to enjoy that day,” Machik said
Rufflez the Clown twisted balloons into animals, and KooKoo the Cartoon Magician performed for the crowds.
“In keeping with the spring theme, we offered a baby farm animal petting zoo, which is new this year,” Machik said.
Children had the opportunity to hug the Easter Bunny and pose for photos.
In addition, the nonprofits and businesses attending provided children’s games, activities and crafts. At the kite-making station, they decorated and assembled a souvenir to take home.
“Plus we have a variety of craft and specialty food vendors for adults to enjoy,” she said.
At the Colebrookdale rail yard, the pop-up Bears & Bees Bar offered spring cocktails and mead, an alcoholic beverage made from fermented honey, by Rebel Hive Meadery and Stonekeep Meadery.
Musical performances were provided by the Boyertown Alumni Marching Unit Ceremonial Band and Funky Frets.
“This event is a great opportunity to showcase Boyertown’s businesses and vendors and to bring in new additions from the surrounding communities to help generate excitement and interest in our small town,” Machik said. “It is a wonderful comingtogether of unique craft and specialty food vendors, delicious food, and activities and entertainment for families.”
This year’s presenting sponsor was Fred Beans Ford/Collision CARSTAR.
