The Boyertown Evening Market opened for its second season on May 5, offering a variety of fresh produce and products by local growers and businesses.

Building a Better Boyertown had wanted to bring a farmers market back to town for a few years, according to the nonprofit organization’s events coordinator Amanda Machik and administrative assistant Kim Evans.

Last year the Boyertown Evening Market debuted to provide fresh and local options for the community.

“The closest farmers markets to Boyertown are several miles away, and we wanted to provide a more convenient opportunity for residents,” Machik and Evans said in a statement.

The market runs through Sept. 29 and is held on the first and third Thursdays of each month from 4 to 8 p.m. in the Boyertown Museum of Historic Vehicles parking lot located off South Reading Avenue. In June and September, there will be a third market on the fifth Thursday of the month.

“The markets provide fresh and local options for our community, as well as a convenient location right in town,” they said.

Participating vendors may vary slightly during

the course of the season. In addition to vendors, select markets will feature activities and nutritional education opportunities.

“With markets twice a month running through spring, summer and fall, there are always various options for seasonal produce and products. It also serves as a community gathering place and brings people into town to support local businesses, restaurants, and shops,” Machik and Evans said.

Local growers and artisans offer fresh produce, meat, dairy, kitchen supplies, and more.

“The market allows the vendors to promote their business and gain exposure within the community. Many of our vendors are small, family-owned businesses who are looking to expand their customer base,” the organizers said in their announcement.

Participating vendors currently include Hinterhof Farm, Ringler Produce, The Bobbin and Treadle, Amazing Acres Goat Dairy, Kaizen Farms, Peppermint Stick Candy Store, Fungified Farm, Will O’ the Wick Candles, Hopewell Flower Farm, Hill Road Coffee Roasters,

Rosedell Farms, and Lehigh Valley Peanut Butter & More.

“People like to know where their food is coming from and are looking more and more for local options. The market also supports the local economy,” the organizers said.

Building a Better Boyertown noted the variety of the vendors. The market not only offers produce and food items but kitchenware such as table runners, dish towels and candles. The market also gives vendors the opportunity to speak about their products and offer tips and advice on use them in the kitchen.

“The response so far has been very positive,” Machik and Evans said. “Last year’s market was extremely popular, and we hope that this year’s will be just as successful. Many of the vendors are regulars and attend most of the markets, allowing them to connect more regularly with customers.”

The Evening Market is free to attend. GPS address: 85 S. Walnut St., Boyertown, PA 19512. For more information, including current vendor list, vendor registration, and sponsorship details, visit www.buildingabetterboyertown.org/eveningmarket.
