‘A Walk with Conrad Weiser’
Leesport Area Historical Society will present Lynn Otto and the topic “A Walk with Conrad Weiser” on July 25 at 7 p.m. at Bethany EC Church, 308 Main St. Leesport.
Otto has been a participant in living history demonstrations since 1984. His program will focus on Weiser’s travels on the Tulpehocken Trail while serving as an interpreter and negotiator for the Native Americans and the provincial government during Pennsylvania’s early days.
All are welcome to the free program.
Concert series
The summer concert series kicks off at Keystone Villa at Douglassville, 1180 E. Ben Franklin Highway, Amity Township, on July 25 at 7 p.m.
Pottsgrove Community Band kicks off the season of free concerts.
The Villa asks that you call the facility at 610-385-5000 to let organizers know you’ll be there.
Softball fundraiser
A team from Lyons is playing a WFMZ-TV team on July 30 at 5 p.m. at Kutztown Park at the girls senior softball field.
There is no admission charge, but all donations are going to a Kutztown area family who lost their home to a fire on March 2.
There are bleachers, but those attending are urged to bring lawn chairs in case the available seating is at capacity.
Cow pie bingo
Tompkins Community Bank will sponsor its annual Cow Pie Bingo fundraiser for children with Muscular Dystrophy on Aug. 13 from noon to 3 p.m. at Classic Harley-Davidson, 983 James Drive, Bern Township.
In addition to cow pie bingo, the event will feature food, drinks and a raffle, organizers said.
The public is invited to purchase one square for $20 or three squares for $50 for the chance to guess where a steer calf will lay a “pie” on a large, fenced-in grid.
The person with the ticket of the winning square will receive $500. Tickets can be purchased at Tompkins Community Bank’s Berks County branches, Classic Harley-Davidson or online at http:// one.bidpal.net/cowpiebingo/welcome.
Night for the stars
Starfest 2022 is Aug. 20, with a rain date of Aug. 21, at Hopewell Furnace National Historic Site, off Route 345 in Union Township.
It is presented by the ChesMont Astronomical Society. The program features speakers, astronomy presentations, activities for kids and eventual viewing of the night sky through more than 20 amateur and high-end telescopes, organizers said.
The highlight of the evening is “10 object row.” Ten of the members’ telescopes will be focused on a different deep sky object so the guests receive a variety of astronomical objects to look at, organizers said.
Admission and parking is free. Donations are greatly appreciated.

Meet the astronomers and their telescopes • 7 p.m.: Opening Remarks • 7:30 p.m.: Children’s author Julia Kregenow will read from her book “Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star, I Know Exactly What You Are.” • 8 p.m.: Dr. Jason Wright will talk about his work studying exoplanets, life in the universe and his work with the Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence • 9:15 p.m.: Drawing of the grand prize followed by stargazing.
