Berks native to lead homeland security
Michealann Andrusiak, who lives in Montgomery County, appointed by governor
A Berks County native has been chosen to lead the state’s homeland security efforts.
Gov. Josh Shapiro and Pennsylvania State Police Commissioner Christopher Paris announced Friday the promotion of Pennsylvania State Police Capt. Michaelann Andrusiak to the rank of major and her appointment as director of the
Governor’s Office of Homeland Security.
Andrusiak graduated from Kutztown University in 2000 with a degree in sociology. She enlisted in the state police two years later and began her career as a trooper assigned to the media office in the Philadelphia stations. While she was there, she worked as a patrol trooper and criminal investigator.
She has also served in the Bureau of Integrity and
Professional Standards, Internal Affairs Division and most recently as the director of the Drug Law Enforcement Division within the Bureau of Criminal Investigation.
She now calls Montgomery County home.
“Major Andrusiak has decades of experience in law enforcement and protecting our commonwealth against the threats we face, and most importantly, she has embodied the highest standards of trust and integrity throughout her career,” Paris said. “I am confident in her ability to continue serving the people of Pennsylvania and ensuring public safety.”
Andrusiak said she is honored to be selected by Shapiro and Paris to serve as the director of the Office of Homeland Security for Pennsylvania.
“I look forward to the collaboration of talents and strength brought by the dedicated employees who serve in the Office of Homeland Security, the governor’s office, the Pennsylvania State Police and all stakeholders to continue the critical work to defend against emerging threats in service to protect the citizens of this commonwealth,” she said. “I will work hard to carry out the mission of this office.”
The Governor’s Office of Homeland Security coordinates
with the state police, federal agencies, local governments and the private sector to secure the commonwealth against acts of terrorism and to ensure public safety.
