Historical Society hosts grand opening of Bahr’s Mill Museum
BOYERTOWN
The Boyertown Area Historical Society will host the grand opening of the Bahr’s Mill Museum at 85 Sawmill Road, Boyertown on Saturday, April 27, from noon to 4 p.m.
“The Boyertown Area Historical Society purchased the mill in spring of 2023 and is thrilled to share the adventures and history of the mill with the community,” Luann Zambanini of the historical society said in the release. “This mill is a beautiful piece of history that the society is excited to share with the community.”
The mill will be open for tours on Saturdays from May through September between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.
Touring the inside of the mill will give a history lesson of how things were done with water power instead of electricity.
“There are exciting things happening at this historic mill, from the archaeology dig to the planting of native Pennsylvania plants that are pollinator plants,” said Zambanini. “We are working with the United States Department of Agriculture to assure that our plants are native to the area and that they will promote pollination in the area.”
The archaeology digs are something that the public can participate in along with the accomplished archaeologists. Community members, both adults and children, are invited to help with the archaeology on Saturdays from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m.
“More summer plans are being worked out to make the mill a great destination for all families in the area and out of the area over the summer,” said Zambanini. “Meanwhile, the area is a great place to take a walk in the mill race, have a picnic lunch where the pond had been, and take some great photos of the mill and the nature that graces around it.”
