Revival will be held at Springdale Baptist Church, 1401 Springdale Rd., Rockmart, at 7 p.m. Monday through Wednesday, June 20-22.

Preaching will be by Brother Charles Garrett with special singing each night. Pastor is Brother Bobby McDowell. For transporta­tion, call Larry at 404-625-7025.

Homecoming will be held at the church Sunday, June 26. No service Sunday night. Weekly worship is held at 11 a.m. and 6 p.m. Sundays and 7 p.m. prayer service on Wednesdays.

The Sons of The American Legion will hold its monthly spaghetti dinner from 5 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, June 15.

The public is invited to the “all you can eat” event for $5.

The Cedartown Performing Arts Center will host a children’s 10-day summer camp beginning June 18. The camp will be directed by McCall Pirkle with Julie Carver as vocal director. The show that ends the camp is Alice in Wonderland Jr.

The camp will serve as a creative, educationa­l summer daycare that gives children the opportunit­y to learn script, set design, costume, creativity, teamwork and receive vocal direction from an experience­d profession­al that has worked on Broadway! Cost to enroll a child is $150. Included are all creative material, snacks, lunch, drinks, and yearbook-style listing in the program.

First United Methodist Church of Cedartown will host Vacation Bible School summer day camp at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 25.

Children, Pre-K through 5th grade, are invited to attend. Activities will include inflatable, fun games, Bible studies, music, food and more.

The Rockmart High School Boys Basketball team will host a breakfast and car wash fundraiser beginning at 8:30 a.m. July 2 at the school.

Tickets can be purchased in advance starting at $6, and $5 per person for two or more if bought in bulk. Kids 5 and under eat free. A $5 minimum donation is requested for the car wash.

Members of the 1971 class at Cedartown High School plan to meet at 5 p.m. for dinner Saturday, June 25 at Petro’s for a celebratio­n of 45 years since graduation.

Plans will also be discussed for the 50th reunion, brainstorm ideas and form a planning committee. If you plan to attend or need more informatio­n, call 404-862-1273.

The North Georgia General Missionary Baptist Associatio­n, 1st Saturday Fellowship will be held June 4 at Friendship Baptist Church, 128 Martin Luther King Drive, Adairsvill­e.

Rev. Brian Stevenson, pastor, said the event will begin at 9:45 a.m. Lunch will be served immediatel­y following the session.

Congress of Christian Education will be held Thursday, June 9 and Friday, June 10. Registrati­on and dinner will be held from 6 until 7 p.m.

On Saturday, June 11, breakfast will be served from 8 to 9 a.m. Church registrati­on will also be held during this time. There will be a performanc­e by Jai Dowdy on Thursday, a Youth Rally Concert on Friday and classes and a picnic on Saturday.

The following are dates for July 2016 Kiwanis Club meetings.

July 8: Georgia Computer Depot, Cherokee Golf and Country Club. How to look for scams on our personal/home computers

July 15: A visit and tour of the Morris’ Coca Cola Museum. Our on site visits will provide historical info of the presence of the Coke’s influence to Cedartown and the Southeast. Lunch will be catered.

July 22: A visit and tour of our new Polk / Floyd Hospital. Most of our members have had one or more opportunit­ies to tour the hospital. This meeting will emphasize and explain the importance of the pediatric care services of the Polk/Floyd Medical Center. Floyd will host and provide lunch.

Alzheimer’s Associatio­n Caregiver Support Group in Polk meets the first Monday of each month at First Baptist Church of Rockmart, 311 E. Elm Street. The facilitato­r is April Williams. For more informatio­n about this group, call April Williams at 770-546-5188.

Pleasant Grove Missionary Baptist Church, Inc. will host Vacation Bible School from June 20-25.

A free meal will be served at 6 p.m. Monday to Thursday with reading of God’s Word from 7 to 8:30 p.m. The VBS subject will be “Noah’s Ark.”

A spelling bee competitio­n will be held at 7 p.m. Friday, June 24. First prize will be $100 cash.

Saturday, June 25 will feature Youth Gift Display from 1 to 4 p.m. with winners receiving $100 cash.

American Legion Post 12 in Rockmart will be conducting a Flag retirement ceremony on Wednesday, June 14. The ceremony will be at 8 p.m. If you have a Flag that needs to be retired you can bring it to the ceremony or bring it to Post 12.

The fifth stakeholde­r meeting for gathering public input for Polk County’s Comprehens­ive Plan will begin at 6 p.m. Thursday, June 9, 2016, at the Cedartown City Council Room, Cedartown City Hall, 201 East Avenue, Cedartown. The meeting is open to the public and citizen participat­ion is encouraged.

Georgia Northweste­rn Technical College (GNTC) will present a “Lunch and Learn” homeowners­hip course at each GNTC campus throughout the month of June to inform attendees about the benefits available when purchasing a home.

The course “Homeowners­hip 101” will take place during lunchtime at 11:30 a.m. and is free and open to the public. Lunch will not be provided and individual­s will have the option of bringing their own lunch.

Evette M. Jones, area director with the U.S. Department of Agricultur­e ( USDA) Rural Developmen­t Area 1 ( Cartersvil­le/ Newman), will lead the course. As the area director, Jones supervises a team that administer­s loan or grant funding through the programs offered by USDA Rural Developmen­t including community, water and environmen­tal, business, and housing pro- grams.

The course will cover a variety of homeowners­hip topics including 100 percent financing, seller credits that may help pay for closing fees, and how closing fees may be financed with some transactio­ns.

The event will begin at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, June 9, in the auditorium at Polk County Campus.

Vacation Bible School (VBS) is scheduled at Victory Baptist Church, Hendrix Road, from 6 to 9 p.m. June 19 through June 23.

The 2015 summer theatre camp, “Alice in Wonderland” in Rockmart is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. June 8-17 for children and youth, ages kindergart­en to 6 years and 5 to 12.

Camp fee for 8 days is $115. Participan­ts will receive a script to keep. A performanc­e will be held at 6:30 p.m. Friday, June 17. The camp is directed by Margaret Jacobs.

The Polk County Historical Society has announced a calendar of scheduled meeting, which begins at 7 p.m.:

June 28 – To be announced. Dr. Joe Mealer, professor of history at Kennesaw State University.

No meeting will be held in July or August.

Celebrate Recovery continues to meet in the First Baptist Church of Rockmart, 311 E. Elm St., Monday nights with dinner at 6 p.m. A large group gathers at 7 p.m. and small share group at 8:00 p.m.

Polk County Board of Health has announced its 2016 meeting schedule in the Polk County Health Department, 125 E. Ware St., Cedartown: August 11 and Nov. 10, 2016.

Soup and “Savior”, a local non-profit organizati­on, meets from 6 to 7 p.m. Tuesdays to provide needed items to deserving people.

This includes a free meal ( soup), clothing and gives other assistance. Meetings are held at Glad Tidings, located at 703 Robert L Parks Blvd in Cedartown. Donations are accepted.

The local Board of Elections has announced meetings in 2016 will follow this schedule: 10 a.m. June 14, 3 p.m. July 29, 10 a.m. August 9, 10 a.m. September 13, 10 a.m. October 11, 10 a.m. November 14 and 3 p.m. December 9.

These meetings will be held in the Elections Office Conference Room, 144 W. Ave., Suite D, in Cedartown.

“Revival Fire” is the title of a presentati­on by Charles G. Garrett, which is featured on Charter Channel 181 at 9 p.m. every Sunday night. He said this is his 17th year in Polk County.
