Plus: Make sure to get to the Rockmart Farmer’s Market this week to pick up fresh tomatoes

-

Summer fruits and vegetables increase as spring veggies begin to wane at the Rockmart Farmers Market every Thursday 2-6 p.m. in Downtown Rockmart.

Kale, collards, and chard as well as varieties of lettuce will still be available. On June 9, look for sugar snap peas, green beans, summer squash, cabbages, radishes, and onions.

Green tomatoes will be abundant and the ripe red tomatoes will just begin to trickle in. Blueberries and blackberries will make it to market along with plenty of cabbages, and the remaining carrots, broccoli, cauliflower, and beets.

Along with all the fresh veggies look for pork, chicken, beef, goat, and lamb, along with fresh eggs and honey. As always look for a wide variety of canned goods, baked goods, and fresh-baked breads along with homemade soaps.

Stop by the Market Booth for tickets for the Progressive Farm-To-Table Dinner scheduled for Saturday, June 25.

The Farm-To-Table evening begins with a tour of Timberland Farms while enjoying appetizers prepared with local ingredients.

The party then moves to the lawn at Church Street Manor for a multi-course dinner using local ingredients catered by The Kendal Catering Company, entertainment, and a guest speaker.

Participants can take a short stroll to the Silver Comet Trailhead building for dessert along with horse and carriage rides around Downtown Rockmart provided by Indian Branch Drafts.

Tickets can also be found on Eventbrite.com for a small service charge. The complete menu can be found at RockmartFarmersMarket.com/the-market-blog/may-11th-2016

Check out the Community Booth sponsored by Polk Medical Center where a cooking demonstration featuring summer squash and zucchini is scheduled. Pick up copies of demonstrated recipes along with a sample. Squash is a favorite summer vegetable and the harvest indicated a plentiful supply.
