A whole slate of events from Fourth Friday to the Walk of Fame ceremony are coming up

From Staff Reports

- Local residents play corn hole during May’s Fourth Friday concert.

The first event under their belt and deemed a success, the Cedartown Fourth Friday Concert Series committee is ready to offer the community another chance to get outside, fellowship, and have fun.

“Last month, we had a great turnout and I think people really enjoyed themselves,” said Aimee Madden, Public Information Officer for the City of Cedartown and Fourth Friday Committee chairman. “People were lounging on the greenspace, and we had a lot of folks up and dancing along to the music. The food was fantastic, we had great participation in the car show and we even had young people (and the young at heart) playing a few games of cornhole. It was good to see our residents, along with visitors from out of town, really enjoying the event.”

The upcoming June 24 event will feature local Polk County band, “The Pea Valley Flyers.”

“They perform a wide variety of music and their specialty is in country music. I’ve had several people stop me at the last event and say they were excited to hear these guys play,” Madden said. The Throttle Jockies are again sponsoring the car show along Prior Street and Knuckle Head Café will be back offering fresh hamburgers, grilled hot dogs, pulled pork sandwiches and other snacks, as well as ice-cold beer for $3.

“The car show gets started around 5:30 p.m. and that’s about the same time the food truck gets cranked up and ready to serve. Last time, people arrived early and set up lawn chairs in the passive park on Main, grabbed a bite and were back in time for the 7 p.m. concert,” Madden said. “The Pea Valley Flyers will play a two-hour set of music, and that, along with the food options and the car show, makes for an enjoyable evening in our historic downtown.”

Event sponsors for 2016 include GEO Specialty Chemicals, The Polk County Standard-Journal, WGAA Radio, Waste Industries and Polk Medical Center. “These events would not be possible without the generosity of local businesses. We are so appreciative of their sponsorship in order to make this happen,” Madden said. Supporters include Cedarstream, Croker’s Hardware, Attorney Ben Burch and Madden Consulting.
