Coke museum set to open this weekend to public for free day
The public is invited to take part this weekend in the grand opening celebration of the newest attraction to draw people into downtown Cedartown.
The Cedartown Museum of Coca-Cola Memorabilia will be opening its doors for its first day to the general public free of charge starting on Saturday morning at 10 a.m.
The museum will charge $5 for adults, and $3 for children on Thursdays through Saturdays following opening day.
The Morris family purchased Cedartown’s old Coca-Cola bottling plant – which also houses the Standard Journal offices - in 2014 with the intention to remodel the
building and turn it into a museum for memorabilia .
Jamie Morris, who has worked with his son Daniel to open the museum, said that a partnership with the company’s World of Coke museum in Atlanta will also pro- vide some interesting and rare items to display locally.
Those items and more donations and memorabilia from the family’s personal collection will be shown off during the grand opening.
“We still have a lot more work to do to get to where we want to be with the museum,” he said. “But right now we’re at a stopping point where we want to show off what we’ve accomplished so far to the public.”
Morris said that the museum is also still taking donations of memorabilia and cash as well to help fund future operations and events.
Along with items on display and information about each, the museum also includes a small theater allowing small groups to watch short films on the history of Coca-Cola and it’s role in Cedartown and around the world.
The museum also features a mahoghany soda fountain imported from England setup in the front area prominent in the museum.
Morris said the museum will only be open during the three day a week schedule for now, attempting to see what kind of crowds will arrive following the first day of opening.
The hours will be Thursdays and Fridays 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., and Saturdays 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. following the grand opening.
