Mrs. Allie Mae Garner Akins, age 105 of Aragon, passed away Tuesday, June 14, 2016.

Mrs. Akins was born Dec. 3, 1910 in Haralson County, daughter of the late John W. Garner and the late Dovie Mae Cheatwood Garner.

She was a member of the Piney Wood Baptist Church. Mrs. Akins started as a cook at the Yellow Jacket Café and went on to retire after many years with Mildred’s Café.

Mrs. Akins was preceded in death by her first husband, John T. Holcomb Sr.; three sisters, Lizzie Mae Worthingto­n, Elizabeth Adams and Louise Hopper; brother, James R. Garner; granddaugh­ter, Patricia Diane Moore; and a great-granddaugh­ter, Libby Hyde.

Survivors included her husband Aurther Akins of Aragon; daughter, Julie Edna Holcomb of Canton; son, John Thomas Holcomb Jr. of Rockmart; two brothers, Richard A. Garner of Union City and Willie Frank Garner of Fayettevil­le; sister, Mattie Carroll of Brooks; eleven grandchild­ren and numerous great-grandchild­ren and great-greatgrand­children also survived.

Funeral services for Mrs. Akins were held on Friday, June 17, 2016 at 4 p.m. in the chapel of the Freeman Harris Funeral Home with Rev. Jason Suits and Rev. Gary Ingram officiatin­g.

Interment services followed in the family lot of the Piney Woods Baptist Church Cemetery.

The following gentlemen served as pallbearer­s: Larry Holcomb Jr., Robert Combs, Jason Holcomb, Eddie Hyde, Travis Yarbrough and John Presley.

Honorary pallbearer­s were: Chad Combs, Charles Jacobs, Edward Holcomb Jr., Michael Hall, T. J. Presley, Brian Moore, Shane Moore and Brandon Pope.
