Summer merchandise arrives at thrift store

-

Helping Hands Thrift Store in Rockmart is blossoming with colorful summer clothing for boys and girls.

Merchandise is being moved to make room for fashions that remind of another time. Parents and grandparents remember the days of youth spent in joyful discovery of outdoor play with events that could include a picnic and ice cream.

Gay Nell Scott, manager, said budget conscious shoppers could find great buys for long summer days as they browse through the thrift store.

Additionally, shoppers are reminded that Monday has goods priced especially for seniors. For more bargains, many shoppers stop at the shop on Wednesday, which is half price day.

“There is something for the entire family,” Scott said.

This includes merchandise for kids - infants to age 6 - priced at 60 cents and $1.00 for youth and adults.

Scott invites everyone to come and view new arrivals: books, collect- ables, dishes, seasonal supplies such as pots for the garden or patio, household goods, select pieces of furniture and more.

“We also need volunteers,” she said. “If you are interested and have a few hours to give, we want to hear from you.”

The front showroom is neatly arranged for easy viewing by shoppers who not only make a purchase but also spend time visiting volunteers and staff.

The thrift shop is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday to Thursday and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday.

All proceeds from the thrift shop, located at 107 Church Street, Rockmart, go to support the food pantry.

Each donation helps purchase food for people in need, according to Betty Cornwell, director. She emphasized that there are still many in this area that needs food, including children.

Totals distributed during June are: Households, 773; seniors, 260; children, 391; homeless, 10; and new families, 52. A total of 29,222 pounds of food was distributed to 1,299 people.
