Former Rockmart Fire Chief Scott Carter appointed to Georgia State Indemnific­ation Commission

Georgia Governor Nathen Deal’s office announced that Cartersvil­le Fire Chief Scott Carter has been appointed to serve on the Georgia State Indemnific­ation Commission. Carter was one of 21 appointmen­ts and reappointm­ents on July 1, 2016.

Carter was promoted Fire Chief for the City of Cartersvil­le in 2009 and has more than 33 years of experience in fire service. He began his firefighti­ng career with the City of Rockmart. He was promoted Chief for Rockmart Fire and Emergency Services in 1996.

In 2004 he became the Deputy Chief of Operations for Cartersvil­le Fire Department.

Currently he sits on the Georgia Emergency Management Agency Area 1 All-Hazard Council, past president of the Georgia State Firefighte­rs Associatio­n with numerous other committees and appointmen­ts to promote the profession­alism of the Fire Service in Georgia.

He and his wife, Carla, have five children and 10 grandchild­ren and attends Victory Baptist Church in Rockmart.

“It is an honor for me to represent not just the fire service on this important commission but to also represent all of our public safety back at home and our City of Cartersvil­le.” Carter said. “I am humbled by this honor and the responsibi­lity placed on me.”

The Georgia State Indemnific­ation provides a financial benefit for designated public officers and public school personnel who are disabled or killed in the line of duty. Benefits under the Public Officers Indemnific­ation Fund include payments for permanent disability, supplement­al income, and for death.

Eligible public officers include law enforcemen­t officers, firefighte­rs, prison guards, publicly employed emergency medical technician­s, emergency management rescue specialist­s, state highway employees, and active members of the Georgia National Guard, when called into service by the Governor. This program is governed by a commission designated by statute and administer­ed by Department of administra­tive services or DOAS.
