There’s a new doctor to see at One Door Polk as Primary Healthcare’s new pediatrics practice gets underway
When you ask Dr. Amaris Daniels what her goal is in life, her face lights up and she smiles. “Serving the underserved,” she says as a matter of fact that can’t be denied. “That is a passion of mine, and that’s what brought me here to Cedartown.”
Primary Healthcare Centers, a member of Cedartown’s One Door Polk network, has welcomed Daniels as their new pediatri- cian. She starts seeing patients early this coming Monday, but already, she’s been out and about town, meeting and networking with local community leaders.
Born in Montgomery, Ala. and raised in the bustling city of Atlanta, Dr. Daniels is ready to begin serving the children of Cedartown and Polk County one checkup at a time. “I am very excited to be here and become a part of this community,” Dr. Daniels said. Her patients will include newborns up to age 21. “That’s one thing that I am looking forward to – being able to stay here and watch my patients grow. I’ve always known that I wanted to either work in pediatrics or obstetrics. By my third year in medical school, I noticed that I kept gravitating towards babies and children and so I knew that I wanted to practice pediatric care.”
Primary Healthcare is a group of non-profit community health centers dedicated to improving the health care status of their patients and community by providing accessible, affordable, and quality primary health services, regardless of the patient’s ability to pay.
“Reaching the underserved with quality healthcare is such a great need in Georgia. I am proud to be a part of helping to bridge that gap,” Dr. Daniels said. A graduate of Morehouse School of Medicine, transitioning from school to Primary Healthcare Centers setting was a natural progression for Daniels. “Morehouse is known for their focus on providing care for underserved and rural populations in Georgia and in the nation. In this position now, I will be able to follow through on that focus.”
Primary Healthcare is currently working closely with the Polk School District in order to pinpoint specific areas of need, according to Sandy Matheson, director of development and community relations. “Our goal is to start programs in local schools, starting with Northside Elementary, that relate to health. We are particularly interested in creating parent education programs. So the addition of Dr. Daniels could not have come at a better time. We are thrilled to have her here in Cedartown.”
Dr. Daniels will provide acute care and well- child check- ups and related services. Appointments can be made by calling 678- 246- 5174. Primary Healthcare accepts private insurance, Medicare and Medicaid. Sliding fee schedules are available for those that qualify.
