- From Staff Reports

Georgia Power is set to close both offices in Polk County, leaving only two customer service locations for customers to utilize in Northwest Georgia in the fall.

According to a press release from the organization, they announced that they’ll be shutting all but 27 business offices across the state.

Georgia Power’s Ashley Stukes said in an e-mail to the Standard Journal requesting information that only the Rome and Cartersville offices will remain open.

The e-mail added that an expansion of the network of authorized payment locations has expanded, and that payment options remain over the phone and online for those worried about getting their bills in on time.

Closures the Cedartown and Rockmart locations are expected in mid-October.

Cedartown and Rockmart’s employees will be given an opportunity to apply for other positions in the com--

of pany, Stukes said in a follow-up e-mail, along with 270 other employees who will be affected by office closures.

She did not immediately have information on whether the closures would include sale of the buildings, or if they were being leased.

Cedartown’s 315 S. 2nd St. location already had signs posted for customers announcing the closure. Rockmart’s office is located at 202 N. Marble St.

Though Georgia Power is expanding their number of authorized payment locations from 2,600 to 5,300, it does come at a cost to customers. The convenience fee charge is $1.50 per transaction according to reporting from the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Though they can utilize local grocery stores and convenience stores to pay bills, customers usually can only pay with cash or in some locations debit cards. They also must have their power bill or account number with them to process a payment at an authorized location.
