Transdev set to expand call center operations in Rome

- From Staff Reports

The ramping up of operations at the Transdev call center, 65 Technology Parkway, has gone so smoothly the company is speeding up the hiring process.

Transdev, based in Lombard, Illinois, opened its new national transportation call center in Rome on May 17.

Local Human Resources Director Lisa Nash told Greater Rome Chamber of Commerce Economic Development committee members Friday that employment in Rome is already at 110 and that 100 more agents will be brought on by the end of October.

The company originally anticipated the next wave of hiring to take place around the end of the year but has already shifted taxi call service from six other call centers around the country to Rome. “We have the opportunity for even more growth,” Nash said.

The Rome call center handles calls from all over the country for taxis managed by Transdev.

If one were to fly into LaGuardia or JFK airports in New York and call for a ride, the call would be routed through the Rome center.

Much of the company’s business involves prearranging for transportation to meet customers, whether they’re at a hotel, an airport, train station, stadium or simply a restaurant in a new city to the business traveler.

Nash told the Chamber group that work hours at the 24/7-call center are extremely flexible for employees.

“Our start times are pretty much based on call volume,” Nash said. Monday mornings and Friday, Saturday and Sunday evenings after 5 p.m. are all busy times. Some of the workers’ schedules are dictated by special events such as college or pro sporting events, or large concerts.

Nash explained that since the company is not selling anything, employees are generally working in a stress-free environment

Transdev is preparing to bring its own zTrip taxi service in Rome soon. Nash said a specific launch date for that service has still not been determined.
