GOP gathers for August meeting, “Open Mic” on 2016
Local GOP mem- bers gathered for their monthly meeting to discuss upcoming events and the presidential election over the weekend.
According to a release, on Saturday morning, Aug. 6, some 23 members of the Polk County Republican Party gathered for its August business meeting.
Several items were discussed, including the upcoming dates for the Polk County Fair, Sept. 13-17.
The Polk GOP will man a booth which will afford local Candidates a place to meet and greet the public. Even though most of the races are not contested, JP Foster and Shannon McGee qualified as Independents and will be on the ballot on November 8th.
Candidates and their supporters are encouraged to meet their constituents in a casual and relaxed atmosphere at the County Fair.
During Saturday’s meeting one of the items discussed was when “TRUMP” campaign materials will be avail- able. It was suggested that Polk, Haralson and Paulding County Republican party’s combine their resources to obtain necessary campaign paraphernalia. The major theme of the meeting was focused on the upcoming election for the Presidency of the United States.
An “Open Mic” session was held, and 7 attendees talked about their topic of choice in the ongoing campaign between Donald J. Trump and Hillary R. Clinton. Two topics dominated Obamacare (the Affordable Care Act) and the appointment of Judges to the United States Supreme Court.
It was pointed out the potential, devastating effects both issues could have on the future of the United States, near and long term. A clear choice of candidate selection was the underlying theme.
The Polk GOP will hold its next scheduled membership meeting October 1, and will be in conjunction with a Candidate Forum, location TBD.
