Yarbrough recognized by Polk County DFCS for volunteer services

Dwayne Yarbrough, the former Polk County Foster Parent Associatio­n President, was recently recognized at the Polk County Department of Family and Children Services (DFCS) staff meeting on Aug. 19, 2016 for his volunteer services.

Yarbrough has been a foster parent for 22 years, training coordinato­r for foster parents for over 15 years, and President of the Polk County Foster Parent Associatio­n for 5 years.

He has had over 100 foster children in his home over 22 years ranging from toddlers to now grown adults.

Yarbrough volunteere­d to complete IMPACT facilitato­r training and is faithful to teaching and providing support to new foster parents, according to a release announcing his award last week.

He also organizes foster recruitmen­t events and always there to spread the word of the need of foster parents in our community. Yarbrough is also responsibl­e for ensuring all foster parents have access to numerous opportunit­ies for required training hours each year by organizing trainers, locations, and delicious snacks and food.

“He is a support and encouragem­ent to DFCS staff by helping in the office making copies, filing, or whatever is needed and brings wonderful homemade snacks to share with everyone,” the release state. “These are just a few of the many selfless acts of kindness and generosity that Dwayne Yarbrough provides for our community, children, families, foster parents, and DFCS staff.”
