Rockmart Art Department plans to present ‘Steel Magnolias’ on Sept. 9-10

-

The City of Rockmart Art Department will present “Steel Magnolias” at 7 p.m. September 9 – 10 in the theatre, located on Elm Street.

The play is set in the Deep South in Truvy’s beauty salon where all the ladies who are “anybody” come to have their hair done. Filled with hilarious repartee and several acerbic but humorously revealing verbal collisions, the play moves toward a tragic loss. The loss brings about the women’s realization of their mortality and enables them to draw on their underlying strength and love, giving the women the special quality to make them truly touching, funny and marvelously amiable company in good times and bad.

“Steel Magnolias” is alternately hilarious and touching and, in the end, deeply revealing of the strength and purposefulness which underlines the antic banter of its characters. The cast includes: Cassy Thaxton as Truvy Jones, Paige Duff as Annelle Dupuy-Desoto, Jill Myers as Clairee Belcher, Alli Streetman as Shelby EatentonLatcherie, Amanda McKinney as M’lynn Eatenton, and Amy Mixon as Ouiser Boudreaux

The play is directed by Margaret Jacobs and produced by Cathy Matthews. Steel Magnolias has endured for almost 30 years because at its heart it is about friendship, and the theme of friendship extends beyond the stage. Part of this group worked together 19 ago to bring this classic to life and they welcome newcomers into the family of community theatre. Don’t miss this wonderfully entertaining show.

Tickets are $10 and are on sale at in the City’s Administrative Building (old Rockmart High School) on Piedmont Avenue.
