The first annual Robbie Podskoc White cancer benefit concert will be held from 6 to 10 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 17 in the Arts Center Theatre, located on Elm St. in Downtown Rockmart.

The Polk County Chamber has announced a Rise & Shine Breakfast will be held beginning at 7:30 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 7, 2016.

The event will be held at Georgia Department of Labor, 262 N. Park Blvd. in Cedartown. The topic is Hear from NonProfits from the community and the services they offer.

Gina Brown, area coordinato­r, has announced the annual Polk county Operation Christmas Child Project Leader event will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 25 at Bellview Baptist Church, located 2333 N Bellview Rd, Rockmart.

The Highland Rivers Health Governing Board of Directors will meet at 10: 30 a. m. Wednesday, Aug. 24, 2016 at 419 North Wall Street, Calhoun. The Finance and Corporate Compliance Committees will meet at 9:30 a.m.

The annual Veterans Memorial Service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 8 at historic Van Wert Church and Cemetery, located at 100 Church St. in Van Wert near Rockmart.

The Euharlee Valley Historical Society uses re-enactors to pay tribute to the many military veterans who were laid to rest in the church cemetery. In addition to Civil War-era graves, the cemetery also is the final resting place of veterans of the first and second world wars and other conflicts.

The State of Community Address will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Oct. 25, 2016 at The Oakwood Room, 316 Main St., Cedartown.

Downtown Cedartown Trick or Treat will be held from 3 to 5:30 p.m. October 31, 2016. The costume contest will begin at 5:30 p.m. in front of Courthouse No. 2.

Keep Polk Beautiful ( KPB) presents Rivers Alive from 9 to 12 Saturday, Sept. 24 at Seaborn Jones Park in Rockmart.

Help clean and protect the streams in Polk County. Free Tshirts will be distribute­d to the first 150 volunteers. Breakfast will be served to the volunteers.

The annual Polk County Fair is scheduled from Sept. 13 through Sept. 18, 2016.

Activities will be held at the Polk County Fairground­s near Cedartown.

Hours are from 5 to 10 p.m. Monday to Thursday and 5 to 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday.

Georgia Rails into Trails (GRITS) will host a Labor Day Bike Ride on Monday, Sept. 5. The event will start at the Cedartown Welcome Center. Go online at silver-comet-trail.org for registrati­on forms and event informatio­n.

The 39th annual Fall Festival will be held in Downtown Cedartown from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Oct. 1, 2016.

The Kiwanis 5K begins at 8 a.m. at the Welcome Center on the Silver Comet Trail. The Shriner’s Parade starts at 10 a.m. and the Cedartown Humane Society Dog Show begins at 11 a.m. in front of the park at the corner of Main and East Ware Street.

There will be many art and craft vendors to shop with and a variety of food vendors to choose from. The local merchants will be open, as well.

A flea market is scheduled at the Cedartown First United Methodist Church from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday, Sept. 2 and 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 3.

Available for purchase will be house wares, furniture, and clothes for men, women and children, toys and books. Mark your calendars for getting good buys during this 42nd annual event.

The local vegetable market opened at 6:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 28, 2016 in Peek Park in Cedartown. The market will be open from 6:30 to 8:30 a.m. Tuesday and Friday or until the vegetables is sold.

The local Board of Elections has announced meetings in 2016 will follow this schedule: 10 a.m. September 13, 10 a.m. October 11, 10 a.m. November 14 and 3 p.m. December 9.

These meetings will be held in the Elections Office Conference Room, 144 W. Ave., Suite D, in Cedartown.

Celebrate Recovery continues to meet in the First Baptist Church of Rockmart, 311 E. Elm St., Monday nights with dinner at 6 p.m. A large group gathers at 7 p.m. and small share group at 8:00 p.m.

Polk / Haralson Christian Life Center (Camp Antioch) continues with summer and fall events for adults and children.

Soup and “Savior”, a local nonprofit organizati­on, meets from 6 to 7 p.m. Tuesdays to provide needed items to deserving people.

This includes a free meal (soup), clothing and gives other assistance. Meetings are held at Glad Tidings, located at 703 Robert L Parks Blvd in Cedartown. Donations are accepted.

“Revival Fire” is the title of a presentati­on by Charles G. Garrett, which is featured on Charter Channel 181 at 9 p.m. every Sunday night. He said this is his 17th year in Polk County.
