Find out whats new and tasty at the Rockmart Farmers Market this week

- Teresa Lave of Cartersvil­le, Ga. brought a variety of fresh vegetables grown in her garden to the farmers market in Rockmart.

Exciting things are happening at the Rockmart Farmers Market from 2 to 6 p.m. Thursdays.

Stop by the Community Booth sponsored by Polk Medical Center and check out in-season recipes and informatio­n regarding new cooking classes.

You are invited to visit Farmers Market Community Kitchen inside the Silver Comet Trailhead building for a cooking class designed for kids. These will cover many of the basics of food preparatio­n.

Your child will learn: Safe cutting skills, basic cooking techniques, how to use basic appliances, and how to make 2 delicious recipes.

This is a great opportunit­y for your kids to learn more about cooking and using fresh local ingredient­s.

Be sure to mark your calendars for the FarmTo-You BBQ happening at the market on September 22.

You won’t want to miss it. The menu includes local pork, field peas, and collard greens along with cobbler and tea.

Plates will be $12-$15 and available while supplies last. Plates can also be pre-paid and guaranteed for pick-up.

And, don’t forget to stock up on summer and early fall vegetables.

A number of people discovered the colorful display of vegetables fresh from the garden of Teresa Lave. She said she was impressed with the many shoppers at the market.

“This is a good place to bring your vegetables,” she said.

Meanwhile, others were getting acquainted with Kristi Galloway from Bremen. She was giving informatio­n about her display of coffee and tea.

Meanwhile, other shoppers were checking out several fall and summer varieties of squash, tomatoes and okra. Plenty of long beans, green beans, and eggplant are all in season and several varieties of field peas including butter beans and purple hull.
