CPD investigation into May murder remains open, but leads needed
CPD seeks FBI help with evidence analysis, asks for public help on leads
The investigation into the shooting death of a Cedartown man earlier this spring continues as police keep up their search for clues that might lead to a potential suspect.
Cedartown Police Chief Jamie Newsome said detectives continue to work on the shooting death of 35-year old Kenneth Sheldon Albert back on May 22, but that so far no new evidence has been turned up that might help his investigators find a suspect in the case.
He did say that the Georgia Bureau of Investigation and the Federal Bureau of Investigation have been lending technical support for reviewing evidence in the case.
Newsome said he asked for the FBI assistance personally, and their involvement in the case is limited to offering technical capabilities that “our 34 man department doesn’t have on hand.”
Though he said there are several persons of interest in the case, no arrest warrants have been sought or obtained by Cedartown Police, and that for the foreseeable future won’t be.
“Just because you haven’t seen headlines doesn’t mean we aren’t diligently working the case,” he said.
Albert was shot and killed months ago at his Barnes Alley home during the overnight hours. His body was found by a friend driving by who noticed the door to Albert’s home open, and stopped to see if anything was wrong.
Newsome encourages anyone with information on Albert’s death to call the Cedartown Police Department’s tip line 770-748-3788.
