Welch moves on to Georgia Military College as new Dean of Students in Fairburn, sticks with PCC for now

Georgia Northwestern Technical College’s Polk County Campus has a new head, and April Welch has moved on to a new position at Georgia Military College.

Welch, who had been the campus head and remains the president of the Polk County Chamber of Commerce’s board of directors for the rest of the year, said that she has already sold her house and taken over as Dean of Students at GMC’s Fairburn campus, all within a month.

“I miss Polk County, and I’ve been staying in touch with people,” she said.

She said her work will continue with the chamber by phone and through Skype conferencing for the next meeting, set to be held in October, and that for now day-to-day issues and meetings are being handled by vice president of the board, Britt Madden Jr.

“I’m not as involved as I was and being as hands on in meetings as I’d like to be., simply because I drive an hour one-way to work now and I can’t ge home as quickly as I’d like,” Welch said.

For the time being, Welch remains in Polk County in Aragon and is communting, but said that she’s excited to be getting to work in a new role.

“So far, everything is working out. Just loving the opportunity to serve students, and that’s

my passion,” she said. “The impact that we’re making in this community (Fairburn), and the services that we’re able to provide to students, just the commitment for those that I work with, if they start here they can go anywhere or do anything.”

GMC is a junior college with some bachelor’s work, much like Georgia Highlands College.

The new campus manager and Director of Students Affairs at the Georgia Northwestern Technical College campus in Polk County is Donna Baldwin.
