CITY OF ARAGON TO REOPEN QUALIFICAT­ION FOR THE SPECIAL CALLED ELECTION TO FILL VACANCY IN THE OFFICE OF THE MAYOR

Notice is hereby given that, in accordance with O. C. G. A. 21-2-155, the qualifying period shall be reopened for qualifying for the special election which shall be held in the City of Aragon to fill the unexpired term in the Office of Mayor of the City of Aragon caused by the death of Mayor Brenda Gazaway. The Special Election will be held on November 8, 2016.

Qualifying for the special election shall be held at the Office of Polk County Election Supervisor, Karen Garmon, 144 West Avenue, Suite D, Cedartown, Georgia 30125 beginning Monday, September 12, 2016 at 9:00 a.m. and ending Monday, September 12, 2016 at 5:00. The qualifying fee shall be $72.00. Qualificat­ions to hold the position of Mayor of the City of Aragon are set forth in the City’s Charter, a copy of which can be obtained from the City Clerk’s Office, at Aragon City Hall, 2814 Rome Highway, Aragon, Georgia 30104.

All persons who are not registered to vote and who desire to vote in the special election may register to vote through the close of business on October 11, 2016. Early voting will be held on Monday, October 17, 2016 from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and on Saturday, October 29, 2016 from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Office of Polk County Election Supervisor, Karen Garmon, 144 West Avenue, Suite D, Cedartown, Georgia 30125 and at Nathan Dean Center/Rockmart Community Center, 436 Hogue Avenue, Rockmart, Georgia 30153.

The special election will be held in all the regular polling place in the City of Aragon, Georgia. The polls will be open at 7:00 a.m. and close at 7:00 p.m. on Election Day. Should a runoff election be required, such runoff will be held on December 6, 2016. This call is issued by the City Clerk, City of Aragon, Georgia. This 2nd day of September, 2016.
