Aragon’s Garry Baldwin, Steve Elders qualifies for mayor’s job

Two more candidates are in the City of Aragon’s mayor’s race following the decision by the city council allow for a re-opening of the period following the death of acting mayor Curtis Burrus.

Burrus, who served only a few months on the job, died back in August and based on state election law, it allowed for a brief qualifying period to re-open to allow interested candidates to get onto the ballot.

Mrs. Carolyn Campbell Pharo, age 73, of Rockmart, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 6, 2016 at her residence. She was born in Rome on March 9, 1943. Mrs. Pharo lived all her life in Rockmart and loved her hometown. She was a 1961 graduate of Rockmart High School and attended West Georgia College.

In the past, she worked in the accounting department at Murata and was a substitute teacher, but her passion was being a homemaker and caring for her family. She was very devoted to her family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ed Pharo, on May 9, 2015.

Survivors include parents William and Velma Campbell, Rockmart; son Dean Pharo, Rockmart; daughter and son-in-law April and Neely Raper, Rome; sister and brother-in-law Ann and Danny Stanford, Rockmart; and much loved grandchild­ren Sam and Holly Raper, Rome.

She also leaves behind a large, loving extended family of nieces, nephews, cousins and many wonderful friends.

Memorial services were held Friday, Sept. 9, 2016 at 11:00 am in the sanctuary of the Rockmart First Baptist Church with a eulogy by her son-in-law, Neely Raper and former student athlete Ronnie Davis officiatin­g. Interment followed in the Rose Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to RHS Athletics c/o Rockmart High School, 990 Cartersvil­le Highway, Rockmart, Ga., 30153.

The Alvis Miller and Son Funeral Home was in charge of memorial arrangemen­ts for Mrs. Carolyn Campbell Pharo.
